teresa Wrote:Is Hulu working for anyone with XBMC? ... If you have Hulu working please let me know the version of XBMC you are using. Thanks.

Just to check... I went to Videos / Files / PlayOn / Hulu / Channels / Animation and Cartoons / TV Episodes / American Dad / s1e11:Con Heir

The images for the shows were there. But they did not play for me either.

I went to check which version of PlayOn was running on my home server, and it suggested that I upgrade to the latest patch... Once downloaded, it then also suggested that I needed to do a full running install, rather than the patch due to an audio driver missing in their software, so I did.

My running versions now are:

Platform: Win7 Ult 64 Bit
xbmc: 9.11-rc1 R25755 (Compiled: Dec 16 2009)
PlayOn: 2.59.3664.62

Having done that, rebooted everything, I tried it again...

And found that there is a big difference. The folder structure appears different.

I played a clip from the movie Ice Age, and also the American Dad episode I listed above (although, as I said, the folder structure was not the same.)

I did see that it required me to click THREE times to start the items on Hulu (although that could be coinsidence and not a requirement), and there was a new item that started in front of the clisps... like some sort of buffer interface. (Like the Netflix buffer)

I hope that this helps.

Weeeeeell... crap.

Having done that info that I listed in my earlier post, now Hulu, YouTube, CNN work great...

Netflix does not.

I went to my PlayOn server, and was going to submit a troubleticket... and the recommendation in the troubleticket area was that if you are experiencing issues with PlayOn, they suggest an upgrade to 2.59.3669.63

So, here goes...

Whoh... It now includes a tab for social media. Now you can twitter & facebook what you are watching.

Netflix and Hulu both pass the password test.

Hulu still works. Now Netflix works, but it seems a bit sketchy for the selection to start playing.

Still, "Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations, Season 4" is playing on my XBMC via PlayOn, so I can absolutely say that it works.

[LINUX] Revo 3610, PlayOn (Hulu) Performance? - WeakATV - 2010-01-19 02:49

I got a Revo 3610 in the mail, and I'm planning on the setup. I want to use Linux just cause I like it and the VDPAU decoding support.

I was thinking about having an XP VM on the Revo for using Playon since I don't have any windows boxes

1) Anyone doing this? Is there a notable difference in performance when using XBMC with a XP running in the background on the Revo?

2) I was also thinking about using windows natively (don't want too!) since the flash beta supports hardware acceleration for flash content (and then use something like Boxee). But I'm reading that PlayOn transcodes to mpeg, so is it safe to say that Hulu playback is actually hardware accelerated on XBMC after it's transcoded (thus making it play back smoothly)?

In any event, if you have a Revo and are using PlayOn to stream Hulu, your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!

Still no Hulu after installing the version recommended by the support page so I sent in a support request. I got an email with a link to download somthing called visible.mnt to put into the mediamall directory and restart. That causes the Hulu movie/show to play on both the server and XBMC client. Worked fine so they had me remove visible.mnt and retry. Works fine now... not sure what visible.mnt did to make even normal mode work but I am a happy camper now.

PlayOn Media Server Random Stopping - akomisor - 2010-01-28 17:49

As of recently i have been having a lot of trouble using PlayOn, while streaming a show from hulu using the media server it will randomly stop playback and return to the previous screen in XBMC. i then have to start from the beginning and hope it doesn't happen again...which lately it always does, and not always at the same point. This began happening recently, up until about a month ago i would never have a problem with playback. this problem only occurs when using the playon server, playing media from another network drive works perfectly.

Playon's support sugested that the problem was because of my antivirus/firewall. To rule this out i uninstalled it and tried the server w/o a firewall...same problem. They now are leaning towards my wireless network being the problem, despite the fact that i don't have any problems using the wireless lan for anything else.

Anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts on a solution? Thanks

amlost the exact same thing happened to me, and their support was not helpful to me at all. "something on your machine is forcing it to close, we don't know why Hulu won't work through PlayOn for you"..

Hey, I'm just glad I didn't waste my money on a subscription and let the trial just run out last week.

I guess i will just wait till a working Hulu plugin is made to work for XMBC. Are there any other options out there for making Hulu work on XBMC?

- jplatt - 2010-03-18 18:50

I use Media Player Classic HC (MPC-HC) as an external player and it actually works with PlayOn via XBMC as the front end. Aside from a slight delay and sometimes you miss a few seconds of the stream it works quite well. the only complaint I have is that MPC doesnt have a very big buffer, so sometimes it starts off choppy.

I may go back to use either XBMC internal player or the DSPlayer, but until I can figure out how get XBMC to buffer better I wont.

Playon Media Server - mkysimes - 2010-03-28 04:18

I was wondering if anyone who uses this to stream Hulu and Netflix can help me out a bit. For some reason unknown to me (and apparently the guys at Playon) everytime I access Hulu content, XBMC minimizes and I have to manually maximize the screen. This happens in full screen mode and windowed mode.

Playing the content is hit or miss. Sometimes when I maximize the screen again the show I selected will be playing.....then again sometimes not. It only seems to be happening with Hulu content. ESPN, CNN, CBS, etc. all seem to work fine through Playon.

My current version of XBMC is 9.11 R26017 which seems to be the most stable for me but I have also tried several other builds (R27758, R28256, R28815, etc.) and they all do the same thing on my machine. I'm running Windows XP SP3, E5200 CPU, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 9600gt. Could it possibly be the video drivers or something?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Sorry, forgot to mention.....The guy at Playon suggested trying Boxee to see what it did and Boxee played it fine. I like XBMC way better than Boxee so I'm hoping I can figure this out.

- mkysimes - 2010-03-29 19:58

Ok....I got it working in windowed mode, but it's still very buggy. Playon offers limited support for XBMC because it's not "offiicially" supported.

I still have to click on a movie or show and wait for it to not load (usually takes about 10-20 seconds) and then select it again to get an error about one or more things not being able to play. The third time is the charm and the video will usually play.

This same thing happens for Netflix and Hulu and I'm guessing it's because they use thier own video players to stream the content. Any way to change this?

- bradvido88 - 2010-03-30 15:13

I use PlayOn all the time and haven't noticed any problems with XBMC minimizing. Do you have your PlayOn server on the same box as XBMC? Maybe PlayOn itself does something that steals focus when you start a video. I have PlayOn on a separate server, so I can't replicate this.

As far as having to start a video 3x before it works, this is a timeout problem with XBMC's UPNP interface. Basically, PlayOn takes a long time to get a movie streaming (it has to do a lot behind the scenes), and XBMC isn't willing to wait that long. So if you click once, that starts the process on PlayOn's side. XBMC will time out. Then wait 15 seconds and click again. PlayOn should be ready by then.

Hope this helps.
