Thanks for the input.

I do indeed have Playon on the same pc as XBMC. Even so, I would think the "stealing focus" issue would still occur unless it's actually XBMC's video player that plays the file and not Hulu or Silverlight (or whatever Netflix uses). I guess if you're using a networked pc or an Xbox to stream the data then XBMC uses it's in-house player.

Still, is there any way to tell XBMC to stop using the Hulu player or the one that Netflix uses? That would seem to stop the problem. I have noticed that even in windowed mode, while it doesn't minimize XBMC, it does steal the focus away.

Going to Try it out - locust90 - 2010-03-31 10:20

I love Hulu and didnt want to spend the money to get a converter for vga to dvi or hdmi etc etc. so im going to try to stream over my home network that i use for school with my basic cable internet to my xbox 360 and have it come out on my big screen hdtv

tonight i tried out "Play On" it worked great it took me all of 5 min. it takes a min or two to load a 50 min video it doesnt lag or skip I have not tried to pause or rewind yet but as far as basic streaming and displaying it works great.
Im using a 15 day tried but i hope to find a free version im a poor college kid but also a bit of a pirate when i can be ha ha

over the next day or two i will try Tversity , The Orb, Fupees, and Twonkyvision. and report back until i find a winner. wish me luck

XBMC always uses its internal player for everything you play via PlayOn's UPNP server. Unless you manually set up an external player in advancedsettings.

You could try using eventghost to see what event gets triggered which causes XBMC to lose focus. Then set up a macro, where every time that event occurs, automatically bring XBMC back into focus.

I am running the latest XBMC on a fresh install of Windows 7 while trying to use the latest version of PlayOn. So far I am mostly thrilled with it, with the exception of one problem. Anytime I want to watch a video from any source, I have to click on the video repeatedly for it to work.

By any chance has anyone else run across the same problems running XBMC for Windows, and have any idea on how to fix it? At this point I'm not sure if it is a PlayOn issue or a XBMC issue, but I would love to have this minor glitch fixed somehow. Thanks in advance for any help.

I understand some XBOX users have fixed this problem by increasing the EventServer time, however this option does not seem to be avalible in the Windows build, and I can't seem to find help in the wiki. Thanks again for any help.

Start by providing a debug log for review. You say "from any source" but it sounds like all your media is being accessed thru UPNP, correct? Have you tried a local file by chance for comparison?

Sorry, clarification needed there, my mistake. Local media works fine, including media shared through SMB protocols on my network. The only problem is with media from the PlayOn UPnP Media Server. That is the media that I have to try multiple times to access. It does always end up working, it just takes multiple attempts. At times it will give me the error message 'To many failed attempts', and normally the media will work on the next attempt. Not a deal breaker, but an annoyance that I'd like to fix if possible.

If someone can point me in the direction of the appropriate log file, I'll be happy to post them for you guys. Sorry for being something of a newbie as to the inner workings of XBMC.

Thanks!

Trying it Cont. 2 - locust90 - 2010-04-01 00:10

just tried tversity pro.

Pro is not a free program you have to buy a 30 dollar license. I found it on a torrent . it took a few min to install but it wasnt complicated. I used default setting except for the sound settings i optimized it for 5.1 surround sound.

anyway long story short its having a hard time connecting to my 360 (shows up as a video source option but wont connect and says something about firewall etc. etc) and it seems to lag a little on my laptop.

so its getting uninstalled since i dont want to waste my time tinkering on a program when there are still other options to try.

Tversity Pro beta 1.6/ 54Mbps on G wireless router/ wired connection to xbox 360 / wireless connection to laptop/

The orb

does not support hulu. but it has some interesting posibilities with recording internet tv.

took a lil bit longer than the last two programs to set up. it uses your browser as the interface which i thought was odd. it has a lot of applications a some potential for streaming other things but as streaming hulu i have to look elsewhere. Ill play with the orb later and report on the result.
