[Apple TV] Request ability to set Time-Zone from XBMC - Printable Version

This is what I used to make the change.

sudo /bin/ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Pacific /etc/localtime

And had succsess after that.

I did not understand how to do it at all at first so this is what I did.

After reading that I might have to use the SUDO command, I added it to the command above. And BLAM!

I still don't know what the -sf part means.

I did this to try to fix error 11 shutdowns in xbmc for apple tv. after trying to upgrade the software to the bleeding edge and still having the issue of errors on dvd playback with XBMC shutting down with error 11 while streaming them from windows xp pro samba share. I hope that the time fix has resloved the crashing issue.

I almost was thinking about atvflash, Then changed my mind quick. XBMC is just that good.

No Startup Items Folder - Continued Time Problems - DsfC - 2011-04-14 05:22

Hi all,
I'm stuck. I've been working with cyberduck and with terminal to try to sort out this issue, but can't seem to make progress.

localtime points to the correct file (canada/eastern)
system time is 3 hours early

I installed nitotv using pwnage and then installed xbmc.

I don't seem to have a startup items folder (verified by looking in cyberduck)

I don't know what else is needed here to help sort this out. First time posting in a forum. Hope someone can help.

I wonder if the 'updatebgone' program, or one of the others has removed some features of the aTV, like updating, which is good, and time setting, which is bad.

Furthermore, my login seems to be user: root pass: alpine, which is different from most sources I find, I wonder if I chose a less ideal jailbreaking method. Is there a difference? XBMC and all other programs seem to work well.

I thought I saw a program apart of the Nito TV package that sets the time on your apple TV.

I am a Copy and Paste Unix Commando, but I did not see a restart command in their.

Did you try a sudo restart?

And turning of the time server and restarting it again?

Typing 'reboot' restarts the system, I have also used the restart aTV command within nitoTV, as well as tried unplugging the system. When I plug it back in it says 'searching for network time' for a few seconds before loading. I would think that is restarting the time server.

My system responds to most commands I have seen on this forum, but does not seem to require that I type 'sudo' first. It says invalid command when I do. I don't know what sudo is supposed to be.

Other than the various forms of reboot I've tried, I do not know how to restart the time server. I don't seem to have a 'startupitems' folder as mentioned in an earlier post and thus can not run this command:
"/System/Library/StartupItems/NetworkTime/NetworkTime restart"

Could my startup items be somewhere else? Is there an easy way to search through my appleTV without opening every folder?

I just found this link http://www.linuxsa.org.au/tips/time.html explaining how to set the system time on a linux system. Setting the system time worked, but does not change the timezone. I assume a restart will require that I set the time again. It's a very useful temporary fix. The site has a few other suggestions that point to locations within the filesystem that once again, i do not seem to have.
