I know that the standard AppleTV supports only widescreen, but XBMC on the Xbox supports 4:3 and widescreen. Can XBMC on the AppleTV do the same?

Hi Davilla.

I've got a 4:3 TV with component inputs, so no problems with colour. However, I've been reading about this and it seems that the standard Apple TV doesn't support 4:3 and actually squishes the picture to fit. Sad

Therefore, I suppose the question is, does XBMC for Apple TV do the same, or can you set the resolution to get something that isn't squished and stupid?

I know you can change the res on the normal XBMC, so can you change it to say 720x480 or 720x576 to solve the squishing problem on ATV? Any idea?

(CLOSE to getting an ATV now and loading XBMC on it, but don't want a squished picture and can't afford a new TV for the bedroom! Smile)

XBMC will quite happily "unsquish" the video in any way you want it to. It's very flexible in this regard.

Thank you. Yes, I tried it tonight and it does a very good job, but unfortunately it is just so frustratingly slow starting up (buffering I suppose) even over an 'n' connection, with no indication that anything is going on. There should at least be a bar showing that it is buffering or something, just to let you know that it hasn't died. Both XBMC and Boxee (which I understand is XBMC under the covers) have the same problem in this regard.
