I reckon somebody is confusing the AppleTV with the AppleTV 2.

Hardware mod ? Are you referring to the Broadcom Crystal HD for the 1st generation Apple TV ? The ATV2 can decode x264 "1080p" movies but so far the output is 720p only. Whether or not this can be changed has yet to be determined.

I'm saying "1080p" because while it can play most 1080p movies, it is because most movies aren't 16:9 and thus there aren't a full 1080 horizontal lines. Most new movies have somewhere between 800 and 900 lines.

I use Ubuntu 10.04 for the HTPC (see configuration http://tamplan.free.fr/index.php/materiel/configuration-dun-htpc-silencieux-12 (sorry, in french) and Debian for the NAS.

Glad to use the mysql database and the thumbails stored in the NAS.

Looks to be about split equally now between Windows and Linux users:

As of today:

Windows Users - 699 - 37.74%
Linux (Including Live) - 698 - 37.69%

Currently running nightlies on a win7 (ION based nettop). But I'm going to change over to Ubuntu again. Much more manageable when it comes to other apps running in the background (sabnzbd, couchpotato, sickbeard, etc).

Currently running Windoze in the living room, xbox in the bedroom. I'm debating giving XBMC live a go...see how much the overhead drops. Currently I'm a bit disappointed by the performance in windows. I thought that quadrupling the system resources would show a marked increase in performance...
