Okay...it's great to finally have a definitive poster size...I guess we can all now get to work fixing and resizing our poster

I'm not sure if I mentioned this - or indeed if it's worth mentioning - but I updated the gallery section on the Aeon site with final screens.

@DJH
I know you had mentioned that several of the views have changed considerably, so this may not be an issue anymore. Have you given thought to setting some default Fanart for views that show show fanart on hover? By this I mean that in the current version of AEON when using the showcase, if you pause on a movie the info slides in and the fanart appears. There have been several occasions where the movie does not have fanart so it just continues showing random images from the movies background folder. I have had several people confused when a movie and its apparent fanart do not match. I know it is possible to set a fallback image. Have you thought about doing something like this? That way if you have a few movies that you can't find fanart for you will not have conflicting fanart images?

I was thinking that just some generic movie reels for a default movies backdrop would be good. There are some nice examples in the photeon backdrop pack.

Can't say I ever felt the need for anything like that, though I'd be interested to hear more justification for it. If it's a genuine problem for many people then it's an easy option to add (though the skin is colossal at the moment so I can't add too many more textures). The sliding icon/info gubbins was replaced by all the fullscreen info stuff so the whole fanart thing is less of an issue than it was.

I can't say it has ever actually been a "problem." There have been a few awkward occasions though where I have been looking for a movie for the kids and the background to something like a bugs life appeared to be a scene from Freddy vs Jason. Although, that is really my fault for adding that backdrop to the folder in the first place. I think it is just confusing for people who don't know how it all works, once they have seen how it shows a background for the movie you stop on, they just assume that it will do that for all of them. I just thought it might be a nice idea. Anyone else think it sounds handy?

729x1080, Check! Thank you. Smile

- sirreef - 2009-02-22

729X1080 approximately equals out to 1000X1500 (720X1080), which is what my stuff is in. So I just breathed a nice sigh of relief.

The problem with using any size is you'll find some that fit what you are after and some that does not. It's why I randomly chose the 1:1.5 ratio. It fit things easily with minimal cropping and 1:1.5 is an easy proportion that people remember.

Is there a way to let the height be a concrete number and the width be variable to mizimize the stretch/squish factor on display? Of course this would be a window, so as not to bug out Aeon itself.

That's my .02 to the conversation.

what do you guys resize with? photoshop?

i have quite alot of sireefs "stuff" now and resizing to 72% (1080x720) in paint seems to lose a little bit of sharpness which is really only noticable on the text.

or is this to be expected?

thx

Paint has as far as i know no quality options for the JPG-Creation and saves it always with quality-damage.
In Photoshop you have the Imageprocessor and there you can save a whole folder in a new format with new dimensions.
If you do not have Photoshop, there are many different programs. Search in Google for "batch processing" "pictures" and I guess you will find something. Please don't use Paint Big Grin. hope this helps you Wink

there are a ton of free rotation and resizing apps (applets)... google is your friend.

include the word: lossless

- Arkon11 - 2009-02-22

I believe that infranview can batch resize images.

If not, you can use gimp for free image editing (very nice program, not quite photoshop, but more than adequate for anything like this)

UPDATE: Heres a link to irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/

Heres a tutorial on batch image resizing (with irfanview) http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/1028

Hope that helps.

If you don't need a fancy GUI to resize your images and such I highly recommend Imagemagick.

So I'm going to have to resize all my fanart to 720x1080 for it to work with this new Aeon? Either that or re-download them all at the right resolution...?
Does this also mean I'll have to search for fanart each time I add something as I use Media Companion and I don't believe it scrapes high res fan art... just the fan art that's available on the sites it scrapes... Is there another app I could use that would let me specify High-Res fan art? Also am I correct in that my thumbs should be in 720x1080 as well for Aeon to look it's best or does it not matter for thumbs?

- pletopia - 2009-02-22

its my understanding to use MINIMUM 720x1080 .. so i figure using the 1000x1500 from sireef should be fine
