Request for seperate sub-forums for the most popular plugins and scripts? - michaelsalvia - 2009-02-10

To the moderator for this forum. The post for the Hulu plug-in has reached 51 pages, and is now covering almost 18 different topics from what I see. I am thinking this might need to be a forum by itself.

It would be cool and probably a lot more user-friendly.

I know, we have had discussions within the team to address these things.

A major forum restructure would be at place.

-1 for this from me

Unlike skins, new plugins are released all the time. They often flair up in popularity then die down or irreparably break completely (i.e. tv links).

Just use the release thread for everything from bugs to feature requests. To search the thread, use the 'search this thread' button or use google.

To use google: copy the thread's url, and prepend search: to in in the search box.

If you don't want to use massively long threads, XBMC-Addons.googlecode.com has an issues tracker that anyone can use for bugs or feature requests, so use it.

IMO script/plugin developers should open a new thread for each release and drop support for the last. It'll keep the threads managable and group the issues/common questions for each release. (In theory. There's always the human element to ruin it Wink)

As long as we're voting:

+1

That thread has become useless unless you already know what you're looking for and how to find it. I wonder how many people noticed that I posted this very suggestion in that thread the other day.

The since Hulu plugin thread has more replies in it than half of the skin sub-forums have in the entire forum. I don't see a downside to giving plugins the same treatment as skins in terms of sub-forums.

Release a new version of Hulu create a new thread. Let the posts build up and release a new verision and a new thread.

When a thread is 50pages long it gets hard to read through, but at the same time some of those posts are well outdated because the script has moved on.

It may be possible that once the new xbmc-scripts comes into existance, simple forums can be auto-generated for each plugin/script/skin all that crap. Or...hm.... or maybe not Big Grin

anyways,

I'll consider this, and just lock old threads. the problem though is plugins are simple things and changes are done very incrimentally. for example my version of Hulu has only gone through enough changes for me to change versions from 1.0.0 to 1.1.6 maybe (ok so I just pulled those numbers out of my ass but you get the point) Plugins are pretty simple and I think 'dropping support for the last' is pretty much done automatically.

I think the best solution would be for everyone to use google's issue tracker.
