I just bought an MSI Board with IGP 8200 to be able to participate in testing here. Now I am afraid, that this was a wrong decision.
MSI K9N2GM, 2GB dualchannel RAM DDR2-800 CL4
Until now it looked very promising :-)

Won't hurt to give it a shot.

I don't think so. As mplayer is able to show 1080p fine on that IGP i'm sure it is just a matter of time until motd2k convinces xbmc to also do so.

By setting my system to start at 1080i resolution (which doesn't affect the playing resolution of any movies), my 8200 system plays everything just fine. There is nothing wrong with the capabilities of an 8200IGP system, it's just a matter of time before the little things are worked out - but until then, I'm playing all my stuff with no issues.

OK, thank you. I will set up my system and report back

motd2k I bought a 9500 GT 512Mb (G96) as you recommended and wow killasampla play perfectly, Transformer HD trailer 40mbps play also perfectly (with a peak at 73mbps). I'm glad to have given up my 8400gs (G98) 256Mo even if the 9500GT does not do VC-1 but who really care 99,9% of the videos are in H264.
Now I will just wait for extrnal sub support and subs position changing to be supported

I thought recent 180.37 and newer support VC1 on everything vdpau aware? I'm thinking about replacing my 7600GT with a 9500GT in my main rig because of VDPAU...

Will correct myself: Everything not G98 or MCP will only do partial (IDCT / Motion Compensation) VC-1 decoding (as is for MPEG1/2). Seems like the cheaper the GPU, the more video acceleration it has to offer?!

Only G98 with 512Mb has a vc1 proper hardware decoder (VP3).
9500 GT 512Mb is a g96 so it give only half-hardware vc1 decoder (VP2).
But 9500 GT has more power for Opengl stuff or cuda coding etcc... It should be the best choice!

I can confirm only HD playback with svn 18660 on 8200 IGP never had any of the stuttering problems reverting back to 18469 gives perfect playback for HD and SD.

Think i'm gonna give this a try, got a Asus 9300 board, E8400, 2x2gb ram. Will use Ubuntu as distro, recommended XBMC build and AEON skin. Audio/video via HDMI is the plan.
Just got a question though: How's the situation with subtitles? It's an important feature.. oh, to be honest, my gf requires it..

modt2k Thanks, 18660 worked again perfectly on my 8600 GTS

Antioch Wrote:You probably didn't have codecs correctly installed in Vista because iirc the 8800GTX does *not* support VDPAU. Take a look at your CPU load next time you're on linux while watching a 1080p movie. If it's not below ~10% then I'm pretty sure you're not using the GPU. Moreover I believe motd2k put something into the code a week ago that automatically forces xbmc-vdpau to fall back to software rendering if an 8800GTX is detected.
I was very tired last night and typed GTX, but I'm actually using a eVGA GeForce 8800 *GTS*, which is supported.

svn 18670 works perfectly again on my 8200 IGP Thanks!

I have just a question, do someone experience a little jerknyness on movies? Whatever if it is 720p or 1080p, I thought it was because my 8400gs 256Mo has not enought video, but with my 9500 GT 512mo, I still have this. In sofware mode everything is smooth. Am I the only one?
