On performance - djh_ - 2009-04-04 A few people seem to be having issues with performance on their systems so I figured I'd do a quick survey. The more people can post here, obviously, the better the feedback. First, my setups. The thing to remember here is that if you leave Nvidia's "Threaded optimisation" setting at its default for your videocard, XBMC's CPU usage hits the roof. Turning it off returns things to normal. 1) HTPC Windows XP SP2 Intel Core2Duo E6750 2.67ghz 2gb RAM GeForce 7300GT w/ 256mb RAM (latest Nvidia drivers) Background tasks: Minimal. Occasional use of SABnzbd has no impact on performance. Performance: Flawless at 1366x768. 2) Desktop Windows 7 build 7068 (32bit) Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4ghz 4gb RAM GeForce 8800 GTX w/ 768mb RAM (stock Win7 Nvidia drivers) Background tasks: Plenty, ranging from Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator to Notepad++ with multiple tabs and plugins, Google Chrome with multiple tabs, MSN Live Messenger and VNC Viewer. Performance: Windowed performance suffers occasional disk-based stuttering but is otherwise fine. Media has to be stored locally; if it's hosted on a remote server via SMB, library load times are poor, though skin performance is fine. Possibly a Windows XBMC build issue. Fullscreen performance: flawless at 1080p. - Shadok - 2009-04-04 HTPC Windows Vista x86 Intel Core2Duo E7200 2,53 Ghz 2 Gb RAM Intel DG45FC with GMA X4500HD Background tasks: none Performance : 1280*720, everything is fine (even when playing 1080p content or a bluray) - JoWa - 2009-04-04 HTPC Windows XP SP3 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 4 GB RAM nVIDIA nForce 730i/GeForce 9300 background tasks: ultra vnc some minor lags at 1784 x 1004 (strange resolution, cause my TV has overscan issues -.-'), but only when showing backdrops the first time edit: debug mode tells me that in the menu i have 20-40 fps, and in movie showcast 15-30 fps after bufferung all the backdrops etc i have 25 fps min. - fanaticffwd - 2009-04-04 HTPC Windows Vista Intel core2quad 6600 4 GB RAM Nvidia Geforce 7100 Background task: Utorrent Performance: Running @ 720p everything runs very well. - Crewone - 2009-04-04 HTPC Windows Vista E6600 @ 3Ghz 2GB RAM Intel G35 @ 1920x1080x60Hz No background tasks (well, eventghost) Stark lags when using 'flow' layout. - Hitcher - 2009-04-04 Can I suggest you turn on Debug logging and check the FPS that Aeon runs at compared to the refresh rate. - Ayla - 2009-04-04 HTPC Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Latest Plex) E8500 @ 3.16GHz 4GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 9300M HDMI @ 1080p60Hz No background tasks. Overall laggy performance. Browsing a list of folders/files in Files/List Mode feels laggy. NO problems with MediaStream on same setup. - ezechiel1917 - 2009-04-04 HTPC Windows Vista x86 Core 2 Duo 2,4GHz 4GB RAM Intel GM965 Faster I browse through movies more laggy Aeon is. For example if i play some HD x264 stuff which gets me 90+ CPU usage i still get the same fps in the menus. V sync disabled in xbmc makes me get 50% CPU usage with it on it drops to 13%. Is this something do with opengl ? i gonna have to get a better graphics card? a modern game to me looks like it has tons of textures and i still can get smooth frame rate but with this i only see a fan art texture and 5 or so poster textures. i am not looking for some crazy frame rate 30 consistent fps would be fine, mine idle on showcase gets 25 and when i brows it drops to below 18fps. - Nazgulled - 2009-04-04 djh_ Wrote:First, my setups. Anyway, my HTPC: Windows Vista SP1 (32bits) AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.50GHz 2GB DDR2 RAM Asus M3N78-EM with IGPU GeForce 8300 XBMC running at 1920x1080 @ 50Hz Background tasks: uTorrent, eMule, Eset NOD32 Anti-Virus, Windows Sidebar Performance: around 50fps in the main menu, 25fps in all other places which makes the whole thing lag a bit. - Hitcher - 2009-04-04 EMK0 Wrote:i don't see any performance hits to the skin if i use up my CPU. You should let your video card handle the v-sync, what is it? |
