which remotes do you all use? - Sneeka - 2009-04-23

Hi there, first time poster so please be gentle :o

Just delving into all this htpc lark, and I'm stuck on which remote I should go for. The sensible side of me just says go with a standard MCE remote, but I'd really prefer something that isn't IR.

Remotes like the dinovo mini look damn nice, but again, i'm not sure how much use I'd get out of the keyboard, particularly as XBMC is geared much more towards the standard one-handed thumb-pressing control method.

So, what does everyone else use? Huh

i have 2 x pc based xbmc and 2 x xbox based xbmc, all use exact same remote, the original xbox one.

nothing flash, but mrs loves it, cause it functions same on pc as it has for what seems like endless years on xbox:-)

Same here using the old nice original xbox remote on both htpc and xbox......we know and love us maybe since 6 years?? never want an other remote!!!!

I use the MCE remote. Eventually, I plan on pairing the MCE remote receiver with a Logitech Harmony remote, but for now just the plain vanilla MCE remote.

Speedlink MCE clone + Eventghost. Works brilliantly once set up and dirt cheap.

MCE remote, its feels better than any other remote I have tried when navigating using the up/down/left/right arrows.

MCE Remote + Receiver + Event Ghost. Works like magic, but took some setting up.

I've got a Harmony One, which I've tried using but its lags like crazy. Am going to wait until my USB-UIRT arrives.

about remotes... - rjuno65 - 2009-04-24

Hi all, first post... Have been using XBMC for years on the XBox. Have recently added an Apple TV and Windows XBMC to my gear...

Sorry about the noob questions but:

1. How does one get an mce remote working with XBMC on Windows?

2. How does one get an XBOX remote to work with Windows?

Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's replies. Think I might go with a bog standard MCE remote, seems less hassle Smile

I use an original Xbox controller on my HTPC; it's what I'm used to after using it on the Xbox for so many years. Some day I'll buy an Xbox 360 controller so it's wireless, but the original Xbox controller works just fine.

I'm using this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14380 (using only receiver)
+ Eventghost
+ special driver for this remote (With this driver remote control doesn't emulate keyboard and mouse, but only sends events to eventghost)

As remote control I'm using Logitech Harmony 525

Genius Remote 300 (MCE remote control), comes with IR USB receiver + EventGhost.
also have Logitech Harmony 555, but i prefer Genius.
