Plugin Update - dink - 2009-11-26

Hi Folks

Just to let you know I have made a few updates

  1. Support for H.264 480Kbps streams - for those who have slow broadband connections using this stream may help.
  2. Live TV Streams now use the same selected video mode as the catchup streams (or closest). 1500, 800 and 480Kbps streams available
  3. On pressing play a loading dialog will now appear to show progress towards starting the stream. Normally this should be onscreen only briefly but if there is an issue (recent Linux builds I'm looking at you) then you will get an indication that XBMC has started processing the stream.

The update can be found at http://xbmc-iplayerv2.googlecode.com/files/IPlayer-2009-11-26.zip
If no one finds any issues I will put it up on SVN tomorrow.

Cheers
Dink

BBC Iplayer - anolanbfg - 2009-11-27

This has probably been mentioned, so apologies if so but are there any plans to integrate BBC Iplayer. At the moment I use my PS3 which works well but I like the idea of accessing it through XBMC.

Thanks

Great updates, v.useful (the one regarding streaing for lower speed bband)

just a question, what file type does xbmc play when it calls an iplayer stream? Is it RMTP? Ive set external player to launch RMTP in media player classic but they always play within xbmc. (I do this cos bbc hd streams play bad in xbmc on my pc).

(been trying to do this for 720 and 1080 apple movie trailers too, if anyone has any tips)?

thanks.

Yup the IPlayer streams are RTMP. As to how to get them to play in mediaplayer classic I'm not sure. That seems to be a question for the external player thread at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=43511 . Unless of course someone on this forum has had any experience with this type of setup.

Won't come out of pause - cablecar1 - 2009-12-01

Has anyone else had a problem when playing HD content, if you pause playback it won't restart!! you just get a paused picture with the sound as a continous loop.

What platform and release are you using?

Hi Dink

Odd one this..I had the live streams working fine. Im running Windows (XP) on the latest camelot build and your latest plugin...now, the live streams DONT work but everything else (all the shows etc) Work just fine!!

It does go to start processing something when I click a live stream then it just stops and nothing happens...

Any ideas on this one?

Also - will there ever be any prospct of the old ITV plugin being revisited or is it screwed with the streams?

FINALLY - GREAT WORK!! Loving the iplayer and watching top gear on demand Big Grin

...and on that bombshell Big Grin

The Live TV problem seems to be a problem with the that build revision. I can view the live streams on a windows box using SVN:24195

On the ITV front there doesn't seem to be much of an option available due to the encrypted streams. I can only see 2 ways that it will become viable again. Either ITV start using an unencrypted video stream or XBMC uses the Plex approach and embeds a flash capable web browser.

Everytime I use externalplayer to play the RTMP stream, MediaPlayerClassic gives error "failed to render the file".

Any ideas?

I don't know if Media Player Classic even supports RTMP and if it does the BBC streams may need additional settings that are not available on the URL.

In the future H.264 over RTMP may get a performance boost on Windows via the DSplayer but until then I'm not sure if there is a viable hardware based solution.

Iplayer on Xbox XBMC - kangarolf - 2009-12-04

Hi all,

Ive been having some issues with my xbmc and iplayer on my xbox.

Was just wondering if there is a recommended version of XBMC and the iplayer plugin to use. Lots of the later releases of XBMC dont work too well on xbox despite the best efforts of the now non official xbox developers.

I'm not interested in new HD features I just want to play my music, xvids and watch iplayer.

I have this morning tried the bleeding edge release of both iplayer (26_11_09) and xbmc for xbox (25010_B1) but they wouldnt play ball. Got a python script error when I tried to actually play a stream, though it would find and display streams.

PS The errors/problems I get are that it lists the categories but never actually shows any programmes and some of the categories result in a notification saying there was a scripting error.

PPS I have uploaded a log file to pastebin...cant see anything obvious though it does appear to be grabbing the programme listings, just not putting them on screen. I am using the standard PMHD skin.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Dink,

Moderately off topic, but do you think you could take a look over http://player.stv.tv - it offers all the ITV player content (but with Scottish bias) and doesn't appear to use RTMPE. If you need any code support pushing into XBMC, let me know.

Xbox XBMC and iPlayer - kangarolf - 2009-12-04

Hi all,

Ive been having some issues with my xbmc and iplayer on my xbox.

Was just wondering if there is a recommended version of XBMC and the iplayer plugin to use. Lots of the later releases of XBMC are not as stable as the Avalon release, despite the best efforts of the now non official xbox developers.

I'm not interested in new HD features I just want to play my music, xvids and watch iplayer.

The errors/problems I get are that it lists the categories but never actually shows any programmes and if you go into some of the categories it hangs showing 0 items retrieved (usually the larger categories)

I have uploaded a log file to pastebin...cant see anything obvious though it does appear to be grabbing the programme listings, just not putting them on screen. I am using the standard PMHD skin.

This is NOT a debug log. And afaik this is not an XBMC issue but something with BBC/iPlayer. Try using XBMC on one of the other platforms to confirm...
