I must say that implementation of VDPAU de-interlace is really bad in XBMC. MythTV has a lot better working VDPAU de-interlace.

hmmmm ..... maybe there is something wrong with my brain ...
the option is in je menu configure of the tvheadend add-ons ?

because i don't see the option ?!

Update : as i have installed several version (trink / pvr) from svn, it seems that i am not executing the right xbmc.

Update : as i have installed several version (trink / pvr) from svn, it seems that i am not executing the right xbmc.

This option is in ALL xbmc builds under system/system/audio output/ac3 capable receiver
untick this option if it might help.

oups sorry. For the option it was for VDPAU => i have clean my ubuntu and now it's OK.


For the AC3 issue : i am on analog outpu in 2.0, and i'am not able to select AC3 capable option as i'am not with digital output !

is anyone using the technotrend s2-3600? and if so, what drivers are you using?

I'm using the s2-liplianin drivers, but i get non stop continuity counter errors with it as well as DTS discontinuity errors on HD channels. It has nothing to do with reception as i also have two tevii s650 connected to the same dish and they work fine.


Heres an example showing the errors that I got in just 15 or so seconds of recordings.

I agree, the picture quality is nothing compared to my hd-settopbox. Is it that much better with MythTV? Because i thought it's the limitation of VDPAU it's self..

Well this all wouldn't be a problem if they'd just broadcast in 720p! Smile

What about making the GPU send out an Interlaced-Signal to the TV and use the hardware deinterlacer from the TV? is this hard to achieve and is it possible to make this only happen when playing 1080i?

hit 'O' on your keyboard and see if VDPAU is being used, when it is see if CPU is 100%. When no vdpau is used you might not have the latest version of Guijs or set the option to Force VDPAU in de addon-config.

And try changing deinterlacing/upscaling in video-settings and try which gives the best performance/quality.

Hey guys ! Which vdpau deinterlacing have you chosen ?

For me spatial/temporal (half) sucks, but spatial/temporal and bob looks pretty good. The problem with them is that my integrated 9400 gpu i think does not have enough processing power for these algorithms so it droppes out frames while turning on. Trying with a dedicated GT220 card it works pretty well with decent picture quality. I have not compared it to a settop box though.

I found a promising commit in tvheadend trunk.

This lets XBMC know the resolution of the stream which could mean that in case xbmc devs implement it we won't need a hack for vdpau just like in case of vdr.

Yes it is a lot better with MythTV. First of all, de-interlace is working very good with ION chipset. I can use Temporal 2x without any problems on HDTV channels, but on XBMC I can only use Temporal/Spatial Half. And this one is really ugly to watch.

I can also see better picture in MythTV when there is scrolling text from right to left of the TV channel. It is difficult to read this text on XBMC, but on MythTV looks a lot better. I hope that all this will be fixed when somebody focuses on de-interlace support in XBMC.

I aslo see that real support for picture width and height came to tvheadend Big Grin. I will try to fix XBMC for this and the update my ppa.
