What's your memory usage with wine up and running? XBMC + X + sabnzbd eats up quite a bit of memory on their own.

It's not to bad every 1080p video that I have tired plays without any problems. I use a Aeon and I can't notice any lagging within the UI. The only time you might be able to see a slow down in when uTorrent is checking the data of a torrent before speeding but that hardly ever happens.

Just checked and memory usage is 236MB with XBMC + X + sabnzbd + Wine + utorrent

Do you mean the entire drive or the partition you are installing to? If its the whole drive that sucks big time. I wanted to have xbmclive and windows dual booting. What is the reason behind it wipping everything?

Actually, if you are dual booting and using a wireless keyboard or IR remote can you select what OS you want to boot from?

Thinking about buying an ASRock 330, but is the dvd region free?

- Kryspy - 2009-06-29

poserdonut,

It's a laptop slimdrive so yes it will be region free. There's even an option in XBMC regarding DVD regions.

Cool, haven't been running XBMC since I had my old Xbox a couple of years ago so I'm not very well informed anymore. But looking at the price of the ASRock it looks like I'll be jumping in again.

sorry to ask, but where's the logic in that? usually laptop drives e.g. from matsushita/panasonic have the strongest region locks in their firmware.

we are just happy penguins because Linux doesn't give a s*** about region coding, and so does XBMC for linux Cool

again, when running windows on the asrock, you most definitely WILL come into region code trouble as I have no idea if an RPC1 firmware is available for the drives in the asrock.

OK, I will be running XBMC for linux then!

This could be interesting for the ASRock to, but since I don't have one yet could someone else give estyx the info he is asking for.

Hannes the Hun,

I dunno. I guess I have never had a run in with region encoding troubles before. I suppose it is because it has been a while since I used Windows for a HTPC.

But more the point, yes LINUX doesn't give a rats a$$ about region encoding flags.

I stand corrected.

Just ordered myself a machine

- Kryspy - 2009-06-30

poserdonut,

First thing to do when it arrives is make sure it is running the updated BIOS. If not the one fan makes a wierd sort of whirring noise. The BIOS update specifically addresses that issue.

OK, thanks for the information!

Now I need to figure out which remote I should get for the system. Smile

Has anyone by chance found a Canadian vendor for this puppy yet? it looks like a solid solid foundation for an XBMC box, and I'm eager to get my hands on one and play.
