hey bro..

if you still want to help on creating the wiki, i've created 2 new pages called AEON settings described and ADVANCED settings described which would benefit from your contribution Wink

How big should the current .zip file be? git has been great in the past but has really been getting on my nerves lately. I can't download an archived copy on mac/windows/ubuntu without it dieing in the middle of the download. Sometimes I get over 100mb other times only a few. Whats going on?

I would greatly appreciate another mirror or fix.

Thanks.

give me another 12-24 hours.. I'll have the script up to download and update Aeon Showmix available somewhere. Designed especially for "Just Plain Ordinary Users".. It should be as simple as double-click-ing an icon to download/update Aeon Showmix after that..

andyblac Wrote:it is not on git yet, if you have the latest git download,(you might need to do a fresh pull), just i have done a major rewrite to try to fix a few things. if you are willing to test it. i can send you a pm with a ALPHA of the 720p folder.

? Hmm, why isnt the latest work on git? I guess you have done something "new" with the audio flags, and thats why I dont see them any more?

When will it come back to git?

Patience brudder! Smile It'll get there.. Once things are on Git, you can't "undo" so Andy is doing the right thing by checking it twice/three times before he hits commit Smile

Ok. Why I ask, is because all my audio tags are now removed for some reason...

sounds like a good idea. beware that hosting showmix can be a bandwidth killer, though, so a place is needed (mediafire?) where it doesn't have an effect on someone who hosts it.
if that can be done, i'm more than happy to include your script into our wiki as another method to get showmix Smile

OK, it's up!

1. The scripts still use git and github for the downloads. No need to add extra delay between the time andy does a commit and an update Smile and yeah, bandwidth is a killer..

2. Sure, I'm OK for it to be posted on the Wiki, but I hope a few others test it out and make sure it works properly first OK? Smile

Here's the contents of the readme..

Code:
Script to Download, Install and Update Aeon Showmix Skin for XBMC
Script Version: 20090810, Patrick Khoo
Tested with: Git Portable 1.6.4-20090729, Windows XP
-----------------------------------------------------------------

---- Normal Users ----
How to use:
1. Copy all files in this package (or if this is a self extracting
package, unextract it) to a new folder
   (eg. "C:\Program Files\ASMUpdate")
2. Edit the file "ASMUpdate.bat" in folder and specify the correct
   location of your XBMC installation
   (eg. "C:\Program Files\XBMC")
3. Just run the "ASMUpdate.bat" by double-click-ing on it

This will install Aeon Showmix to your XBMC skins folder.

In the future, to update Aeon Showmix skin, just run the
"ASMUpdate.bat" again.

To see the last 10 changes you've just downloaded, run "ASMVer.bat",
Press "space" for next page, "q" to exit.

---- Update Aeon Showmix via USB HDD ----
1. Copy all files in this package to your USB HDD
   (eg. "F:\ASMUpdate")
2. Comment the XBMC Path in "ASMUpdate.bat", but configure the
   correct path in "ASMUSB.bat"
3. From an Internet-connected PC, run the "ASMUpdate.bat"
4. Unplug USB HDD, connect it to offline XBMC-installed PC
5. Run the "ASMUSB.bat"

---- Notes for Advanced Users ---
a) If you wish to, you can set a schedule for the script via
Windows scheduler. If you use a shortcut link, make sure
that the working directory is set to the current folder and
   not home or XBMC directories.
b) If you have add-on ASM mods or do _NOT_ wish to automatically
update your Aeon Showmix skin, just comment out the path
to XBMC in the "ASMUpdate.bat" script.
c) You can also comment out the XBMC path if you want to keep a
tracking copy of Aeon Showmix on your HDD outside of XBMC.

---- Notes for Technical Users ---
The thing about git is that unlike svn, it is a "distributed
version control system". Meaning that when you clone, you are
getting the _WHOLE_ repository and not just doing a checkout.
On top of that, the way git was designed, you (by default) are
supposed to be working on your own branch of the tree.

What we need to do therefore, is download or update a copy of
the respository locally, then force a checkout from our local
copy. This is close(r) in operation to SVN.

So, instead of git pull, which does fetch and merge (which can
result in merge conflicts) to our local branch, we use fetch
and checkout to force git to ignore any changes made locally.

Of course, the downside is that no merging will be performed,
and any changes you do make manually to Aeon Showmix _WILL_ be
overwritten. But I think for a target audience of "Just Plain
Ordinary Users" who just want to use Aeon Showmix and keep it
up to date, this is the right mode of operation.

---- Credits ----
Credits to MSysGit project for coming up with Portable MSysGit,
without which, this package would not have been possible/easy.

Credits of course to AndyBlac and XBMC developers for coming up
with some excellent software and the reason for this script :)

Greetz to thread 52755 :)

Download it here.

Feedback please, much appreciated! Cheers!

looks like that script is not cross-platform and is only useful for windows users at present. also it will not prevent ppl from getting stuck with github because if github is not working properly for any reason, your bat will fail to work also. no real alternate download method in my opinion, although it can make windows user's lazy life a bit more convenient Rolleyes
i'll wait for feedback as you do, and if it's positive i'll likely add it as an option for windows users in our wiki.

but i would be more happy with a real download alternative that can be used platform-independent..
