Since you mostly you guys have a 1600 - did anyone try to run XBMC on win7 using a 1600 ?

Glad you got it figured out.

dazex Wrote:Bark,
The ISO linked to in the first thread is consider an older release. 9.11 Camelot was released around Christmas.

If I were you, I would download the LIVE CD version of that and install to your Revo's HD. This version works wonderfully for me. Do it and report back and I'll be happy to walk you through the rest of the way. It's pretty simple and the Revo 1600 with 1GB of RAM runs XBMC beautifully.

I actually have cd-rom to go with my Revo as my house-mate still insists on buying DVD's. So I was able to boot from there and get it running. I do want to boot from USB though as I wanted the option of dual booting into ubuntu so i could have internet and things (presume dual booting from separate drives is simpler than partitioning the main HDD). This however can be a project for some other time.

I have a feeling if i have problems installing the new xbmc build from usb that it might be my USB drive, its 2gig but was only a £5. Have there been any reports of boot failures based on USB stick model? It works fine as a standard USB stick.

but i have another problem, I can't connect my xbmc install to my network. When i installed ubuntu earlier i had the internet up and running so my revo was working.

I installed to USB and couldn't connect to my network and now i have read this i have tried to install to the HDD and have the same problem.

During the install when it comes to configuring the network it falls down. It states that my network is probably not using the DHCP protocol or something is slow or broken.

I'm using DHCP, so don't know what the issue is. I can complete the installation and get XBMC up and running but then can not connect it to my SMBs.

if i go to system and network it doesn't show in ip address and i can see its not connected to my router. How do i alter my network settings once xbmc live has been installed?

Any ideas?

edit
i found this post that may help

http://www.revouser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26

it said:

"You can also change your network settings. These are saved in "/etc/network/interfaces". Open it by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 and login with user "xbmc" and password "xbmc", too. Then type "sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces""

this brings up:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static

then it lists the network details that i tried entering earlier when the network auto configuration would not work.

I think its missing this

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

but don't know how to add it.

I got some info from here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=202834

but could not get the sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces command to work as it states gedit command not found.

If i type iwconfig it states

lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
lwmaster0 no wireless extensions
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:""
Mode: Managed Frequency:2.412 Access Point: not associated

does that help anyone to help meHuh?

How to add skins to xbmc live cd... - Westbrook - 2010-01-06

Hi - would you mind sharing how you did this? I'm trying to add aeon to a brand new xbmc live install on a Revo and having no success finding out where to start. Thanks. W

- schneidz - 2010-01-07

can you post the output of
lspci
ifconfig
iwconfig
ifconfig -a

this mite work:
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up && iwconfig wlan0 essid <my-router> && dhclient

i think you have to scp it to someplace like /home/xbmc/dotXBMC/userdata/skins

look around.

this mite work:
Code:

I tried your code first and it said
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token '&&'.

I then tried removing <my-router> and putting in my ip address and it said
SIOCSIFFLAGS: permission denied.

I then tried the same but put sudo in front of the code and it returned this
Error for wireless request "set ESSID" (8B1A):

For the details you requested is there a way to getthe code from the terminal and onto a usb or something or do i have to type them?

I take it you are looking for the entries relaying to wireless, there is only one and its the last entry?

The router i'm using is a dlink dir-655, it doesn't have any protection on it and the network is a 802.11 n/g/b mix 2.437 ghz channel 6

I've reinstalled ubuntu to check if the wireless card is still working and it is. I've run the same commands and the output is below:

So looks like it my install of xbmc live I've reinstalled it a few time but the wireless still won't work.

- Scottola - 2010-01-07

I followed this guide to get the wireless going on my revo after installing XBMC to a USB disk.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=468527&postcount=7

- schneidz - 2010-01-07

essid should be the name of your ssid that your wireless router is broadcasting.
(you guessed rite that <my-router> is just a place holder for the actual name of your router.
as far as permissions is concerned try
Code:
[b]sudo [/b]ifconfig wlan0 up
[b]sudo[/b] iwconfig wlan0 essid [i]<your-router> # if it's more than 1 word then put it in quotes  [/i]
[b]sudo[/b] dhclient
sorry i'm not in front of my linux box now so i cant test it and verify.

i put these lines at the end of my /etc/rc.local and it works (you shouldnt put sudo in /etc/rc.local since it runs everything in there as root).
__________________________

i think the more standard way to do it is put your info in /etc/network/interfaces and the system will automatically start it up. for whatever reason your ubuntu automatically does this but xbmc-live doesnt. (compare your /etc/network/interfaces in ubuntu with the one in xbmc). - i usually use fedora which uses network-manager-applet so its more seamless.

SweetS2K Wrote:Check your BIOS to support wake on USB... nice to turn on Wake on LAN too.

For Wake on IR:
1. Check BIOS Power Management to ensure Wake on USB is enabled.
2. Boot to Linux/XBMC. Check cat /proc/acpi/wakeup from a terminal session. Make sure USB0 is "enabled". If not enabled, add USB0 with the following:
Code:
echo "USB0" | sudo tee /proc/acpi/wakeup
3. Set XBMC to Suspend when Shutdown. Sorry my box isn't on, so I don't have the exact menu in the Setup. Will provide when I can get to my XBMC.
4. Test. Shutdown XBMC. Use IR Power button to bootup.

I added the command above to my /etc/rc.local so that USB0 is always in the wakeup list since mine wasn't originally.

Hope this helps.

This works fine for me initially, but if I shutdown or restart the system instead of suspending it, USB0 reverts to disabled. I have added the command to rc.local. I've literally spent days trying to fix this, and have had no luck so far. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

This guide and all of the posts were awesome. This is a great solution. I've been looking for an Xbox replacement that could do HD for a while now. I was all set to get a Seagate box but knew that I would miss XBMC. The Revo is a no-brainer.

The only way I could get the USB boot working was to run Unetbootin on Windows 7. I couldn't UltraISO or Xcopy (from a CD) to work. Also, using XBMC booted from a CD to write to the USB stick didn't work. Unetbootin on XP also didn't work. Unetbootin on Win7 RC1 was the only way I could make it work.

I installed 9.11 repack. I haven't dealt with the driver issue but am really stoked with how it's working. I haven't needed the extra RAM yet, but it's only $35 for the extra gig, so I'll probably order that with my remote.

Thanks all for the help.
