At first it only worked when the remote was active. After a ticket it was changed, that the app doesn't have to be running. Now it should be changed back?

@unlocalhost: You can scan the barcode with the "Barcode Scanner" and it will read the URL encoded in the barcode. You can find that app in the market.

Wake on Lan - Ubuntu 9.04 - gbananas - 2009-11-30

Hey All

Just installed the tool on HTC Hero and must say I'm impressed. Top Work! Most functionality works really well without tweaking. Looking forward to seeing it progress.

I have one questions about Wake on Lan. I have XBMC installed on a Revo 3610. I can send the unit into standby using the remote. However, I don't seem to be able to bring it out of standby with the remote? I have entered the MAC but have no idea what port to set. I can wake the PC using the wireless keyboard.

Does anyone have any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks

Gabe.

@freezy
I've finished my testing and here's what I've found out:

a) Inside the LAN: I'm able to connect, use the remote control and wake the computer.

b) Outside the LAN (3G or "normal" internet connection): I am able to connect, but I cannot use the remote control nor wake the computer.
b1) I don't understand why I cannot use the control, I've forwarded the XBMC ports correctly, both for the http server and event server, I can't understand why it's not working.
b2) I used a Windows tool (and also a website) to try to wake the computer and they both worked. I can't understand why I cannot wake the computer with XBMC Remote for Android.

Any ideas?

@gbananas
There's a number of things that need to be configured for WoL to work. Your BIOS must support it and the option for it must be enabled. Your NIC must also have the option enabled to allow that specific device to awake the computer. You only need to open the port (as far as I know) if you want to awake the PC outside of your LAN (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If you want to awake the PC only inside your LAN, the common ports to use for WoL are 7 and 9. Try one if the other doesn't work. On my system, port 7 worked much better than 9.

@gbananas: Also some power saving feature will effect WoL. Play around in BIOS with the power settings.

unlocalhost Wrote:Just out of curiosity what is the barcode like image under the download link for? I figured it was a way for me to download a file on my phone but since I dont know exactly what it is I can quite come up with a good way to find my answer in google.

I have already downloaded the file via the direct link.

I am wondering the same thing. I know it's a QRCode that more than likely is a url to the download. However, I dont see why these are so popular... is there a built in app that scans these or do i need to download one (I'm using samsung moment).

Secondly, awesome app, xbmc just keeps getting better. I'd love to give you guys some money. Is there a paypal account for donations?

Also, I'm running this on a samsung moment and it runs awesome. It crashed once but i can't replicate it. It might be interesting to have this integrate with twitter... I dont use twitter personally but for the people that do they may like to have it tweet the shows they're watching.

awesome awesome job.

Well the QR-code is if you have the barcode scanner, then you can just scan it in and it will pop up and ask if you want to download and install.

Thanks for the kind words. Of course donations are always welcomed here. Smile

In music lib, when I tilt the phone, the lib just shows a black screen. Is this a known bug? The movie lib works good.

EDIT: Are you going to keep the landscape view at all, have you made a decision about this? Otherwise I'll create a ticket for this.

i seem to be having a problem with the music library on the remote.... i browse artist to cd then pick a track.... it will tell me it is playing the cd starting with the track i chose, however it always actually plays a different song on the same cd (it is labeled correctly, though, only the pop-up misinforms).... any idea what the problem is? i also see other people having a problem with the recurring black screen.... i seem to get it when jumping back from now playing, or if u tilt it sometimes seems to happen too... it'll usually throw up a force close prompt and if u do it usually seems to take u to where u were trying to go anyway....

also a quick suggestion... i'm in a house with 3 machines running xbmc, and an xbox in the ride too Smile... it would be nice if perhaps we could have different profiles for different machines so i don't have to constantly change the ip address... i saw the suggestion on google code, just thought i'd second that....

also, this app ROCKS btw Big Grin.... running it on the droid and it is schweeeet....

First I just want to say thank you for this great app. It is very usefull because I do not switch on my monitor/tv just to hear music.
I am using Android 2.0 (on the new Motorola Droid/Milestone) and have the same problem as StarChild reported 2 posts before: Sometimes I have a black screen when tilting the phone.

And at the end a question: When I am in filemode and I choose a folder. How can I play the whole folder? There is no option to put the selected folder into the playlist, right?

regards
Jarny

WoL relies on broadcast messages to send their "magic packets" (MAC address of FF's (broadcast) followed by the destination's MAC address repeated 16 times) and routers do not relay broadcast messages. There are some routers out there that can be specially configured to relay special unicast WoL traffic that the router converts into a broadcast.

It looks like DD-WRT supports WAN sourced WoL.

Hello, Ops forgot to turn on the wifi, It work's with 9.11

imo, this project should have it's own sub forum. This long thread is a pain in the a** to search in. To see if anyone ells has asked the same question

This app is absolutely fantastic, just stumbled upon it today and works very well with my Droid. Keep up the good work!

I've been away from XBMC for a few years due to the popcorn hour. For that player I have made a Android Remote (nothing even close to this Big Grin ). I'm about to implement a "play content on phone on the player" feature using a small http server in my app. I realy like to move back to XBMC and find that there is no support in the HTTPApi for sending a direct url, correct?
I think it would be a nice option to show you phone images etc on the TV without any other set up than the remote app and the TV, agree?

Cheers!

There should be no problem playing something from a http source in XBMC, just use the Play method and point it to the http-url. I'm working on a httpapi replacement wich will add support for non-base64 encoded downloads (i.e streaming and such to the phone).

Cheers,
