xbmc nightly builds - Embarko - 2009-08-12

I just downloaded the xbmc nightly build r22103 (http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/inc/eva.asp?mode=Builds)

but for some reason I can't play anything...the video, for example is present in the now playing window, but nothing is actually playing.

I'm running windows 7. Is it just me or is it a recurring bug?

Thanks for all the help,

please read the following:http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO_Submit_a_Proper_Bug_Report

Sorry, didn't know.

I checked Trac and found that someone had the same problem with the nightly build, but it was an earlier build.

I'll describe it again. I'm currently using the nightly build r22103. The reason I'm not using the official xbmc release is because it has an issue with the Aeon skin (the backdrops and fanarts don't display).

So, I followed some advice and downloaded the nightly build. I can see that the backdrops and fanart work, but I can't play any videos! I also see that it is in the now playing window, but nothing is playing, nor is there any sound.

I have a feeling this isn't a bug, so I posted it here instead

Here's my log: http://pastebin.ca/1525848

Thanks

Try my tonight's build and see if that does it as well.

Also your error seems to be with the actual file you're trying to play

20:31:44 T:2272 M:2220781568 ERROR: Playlist Player: skipping unplayable item: 0, path [C:\Users\Quang Nguyen\Downloads\NCAA.2009.03.12.SyracuseConnecticut.mp4

Try a different file as well.

I just updated to 22118 so give it a try and see if your issue goes away.

Seems to be something wrong with the version you are using, ffmpeg wont load. Try another build.

"Friendly and helpful"? I could swear that just last week I was told this was one of the angriest, meanest communities. That's people for you, experience is always driven by expectations.

here's the log. Sorry, but i;m not very xbmc literate...just recently got into it

again, appreciate all the help

You need to enable debugging in settings > system. Also read the sticky about posting problems in a useful manner.

- natethomas - 2009-08-12

Looks like you are having the same error again.

Try this: rename XBMC in your appdata folder. Then do a complete uninstall and say yes to uninstalling your userdata. Because the XBMC folder in appdata has been renamed, it should not be deleted. Then do a fresh install. Because XBMC has been renamed, you'll momentarily lose anything you had before. Add a video file and see if it plays.

Edit: If it does not, follow AltheKiller's advice. Alternatively, just follow Althekiller's advice.

Are you downloading my PCInstaller or the Win32 rar file?

If you are downloading the installer, I made it to install into it's own folder and add it's own links to your start menu as I did not want my installer to step on the toes of the official installers.

If you ARE using my installer, then you need to open your start menu and select XBMC From SVN and then launch the desired fullscreen or windowed link from there.

If you are NOT using my installer, then you need to make sure you are unrar'ing to to say your desktop, open the new folder and you should see another folder called BUILD_WIN32. Open THAT and you will 1 more folder called Xbmc. Open THAT, select all, copy, then go to your C:\Program Files\XBMC or C:\Program Files(x86)\XBMC [or whereever you installed your XBMC to] and then paste the new files, overwriting any files that are there already.

Then launch XBMC and see if your problems went away Smile

There have been a few issues over the last year where people using the installer were unsable to see any video and I have never figured out why. The easiest fix to this is to install the official installer from xbmc.org install it, copy and past all the files into the XBMC from SVN folder, then re-install my installer. This has also been shown to be a good work around for that issue.

anyway let me know if this does it for you.

Craig

OK, so I'm running XBMC nightly build 22118 on Windows 7 RC 32-bit. My laptop has a intergrated Intel video driver with the latest Windows 7 drivers.

Here's my debug log:

http://pastebin.ca/1527108

I initially tried playing a file without the "enable debug loggin" toggled, then I went and toggled it and again, no luck.

A brief history...

1. I only run into this problem with the nightly builds, not the official release.
2. The reason I want to use the nightly builds is because it's the only one that works with the Aeon "Auriga" release.
3. I also tried using an external player (using the little mod found here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=43511)

Hope this is a little more detailed.

Thanks again

PS. Tried both nate's and althekiller's idea, no luck

EDIT: Did not see the above post by Questor...please ignore above until I try this out.

SOLVED

What TheQuestor posted worked!

Don't know why or how, but I'm satisfied.

Thanks for everyone who helped!

I'm guessing the issue here is the same I am having (thread here)

Your debug log is stating it cannot open avutil-50.dll and I'm betting your intitial install only had version 49 of this dll.

Maybe the method used above either reverts it back to using version 49 (which the official release seems to come with) or somehow manages to get version 50 from somewhere
