[ATV] working 720p ripbot264 profile? - TeknoJnky - 2009-10-14 I've been using ripbot264 to convert some BR's to mkv for ATV usage, but I've been unable to find a sweet spot for smoothly working 720p. ripbot has a preset profile for atv, but unless I'm doing something else wrong (or have atv not configured optimally) I keep getting the atv cpu maxed out and dropping frames. dropping down to 480p works fine. anyone else using ripbot have experiences they can share, or am I wrong in understanding that ATV can do 720p with appropriate encoding settings? - Jemster - 2009-10-15 From my experience, you'll only get smooth 720p using a media manager plugin frappliance like Sapphire - it can take advantage of the ATV quicktime codec hardware acceleration, even then I wouldn't be sure if it'll manage with an MKV but it does work with an mp4 container. XBMC can't use this codec. I've tried 720p in mp4 & mkv with no real success under XBMC, always drops frames, CPU up in the 90-95% range even at lower bitrate L3.1 encodes. Wait for the Broadcom mod... |
