stinkupuss Wrote:If noticed that when I browse samba shares my remote starts to freeze up again. It's seems to ben network related. When I SFTP over wireless in either direction the remote stops responding. My wi-fi router is only Wireless-G but i don't understand why network traffic over wireless would interfere with the ASROCK remote. Anyone else have this happen or confirm that it happens on their end?
If you toss a guide at me on how to setup wireless I'll set mine up and see if I get the same. My wireless is N though.

Nevermind, found a guide and setting it up now.

Uhm, getting "E: Couldn't find package wpasupplicant" for all the packages I'm trying to install. I'm just gonna leave it for now then.

Agreed! Rule of thumb...if you got everything working like you want...DON'T EXPERIMENT! I've found out the hard way a few times.

Weird thing is I can stream 720p perfectly over wireless-g. So that would suggest that network bandwidth is not affecting the remote operation.

P.S. here is what I did to get my wireless up and running:

right complaining to Asrock as the adverse effect of canned replies I reminded them about the
Code:
W83677HG-I is the motherboard chipset controller which has no Linux driver.  lm-sensors reports it but no drivers exist.
their reply

Code:
Dear Sir~
Thank you for contacting ASRock.

We did install the Ubuntu 9.10 for testing on our side.
The system and the function could works without problems on our  side.

Please kindly try to use the Ubuntu opensource update to update the  driver.

Kind Regards,
ASRock TSD
Now how can the guy reply that about this since I know for a fact there is no drivers for this chip?

I would not only continue pestering past level one support which I am willing to bet they never tested anything and just trying to blame it on something else.

I have sent replies to both emails and will continue pestering them since they are the ones who should fix it.

I cant stress to you guys enough if you dont keep pressuring Asrock you wont get a result and not only so this is what we done so that the drivers would be coded and released only they made it a bodge job.

If it isn't broke don't fix it.

Don´t know - binky11 - 2009-12-31 20:23

Don´t know if you already know, but the remote driver is there for the remote controller: http://europe.asrock.com/downloadsite/drivers/Nettop/Ubuntu/IR(9.10).zip

@ binky11 days ago thx but its not that we dont have the correct drivers its a setup vs bug issue now. Last run and then just use it.

To all that in time and gone past it

Happy New Year.
enjoy it with a bug free well setup Asrock

Runing sudo dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-x64-1.0.1-ubuntu9.10.deb

give this output:
Code:

Only thing I found out from this output is that the lirc_wb677 module is not loaded correct.

Maybe I need to compile the module from src. Just have to figure out how dkms works first.

Hello, I've encountered the same problem on a x32 kernel.

Additional information:

Code:
xbmc@xbmc-box:/etc/lirc$ modprobe lirc_wb677
FATAL: Error inserting lirc_wb677 (/lib/modules/2.6.28-17-generic/kernel/ubuntu/lirc/lirc_wb677/lirc_wb677.ko): Operation not permitted

So I'm wondering, whether the modules are even supposed to run on Jaunty...

Did you find a fix / workaround _ml_ ?

- _ml_ - 2010-01-02 21:15

Rayd: Are you running as root when you get "Operation not permitted"?
I upgraded to 9.10 and then remote started working. So with Jaunty kernel x64 the CIR driver 1.0.1 does not work tested both from bin and src.

- stinkupuss - 2010-01-03 11:03

It seems if you want to use the ION330 HT wi-fi for more than scraping or weather then the asrock remote is useless.

Browsing samba in XBMC or navigating the UI while SFTP'ing causes the remote to stop responding.

Running rtorrent in the background, 1 torrent going at about 50k down and 30k up and the remote starts responding maybe 1 in 10 button presses in XBMC or irw. Kill rtorrent and it starts working again. So frustration.

I sent asrock and nuvoton an email about this.

Looks like i gotta dual boot Sad

will Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" Minimal CD work now ?
or should I restart and load Jaunty ?
I am trying ... http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=55282

I have a ASRock 330HT.

Personally i tried evey different type of install method/guide and found XBMCbuntu the best by far using karmic. Everything working smoothly (except for the remote issues above).
