Hi, I think ASRock uses HID receiver, you might be interested in this thread

Maybe some of the newer ones. 100HT/Vision3D etc, but this thread relates (or used to!?) the ION 330HT and variants which definitely has the nuvoton IR chipset.

There has been some support by asrock but was very closely tied to specific kernel versions. Any updates usually killed the IR. Untill a few months ago when Jarod Wilson wrote support into a kernel. 10.10 ubuntu had it, can't remember specific versions. I was keen to migrate to this, but I could never get it to power on.

That is all fixed now. I have skipped ubuntu 10.10 in favour of openelec.tv which boots even faster, and includes tvheadend/sabnzbd/transmission which all can be enabled/disabled via a program addon.

Just an fyi, in case anyone else has the same issue:

When I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.38-5-generic to 2.6.38-7-generic, my remote stopped working. Upon inspection, I noticed that /dev/lirc0 was missing.

I found this in a bug report with a similar issue in an older kernel. The post recommends removing the lirc-modules-source package.

I did this then reloaded the nuvoton_cir module (potentially unnecessary) and rebooted. This fixed my remote.

Edit: I should note that my issue arose while using a kernel with a much higher version number than many others in this thread. I have moved away from the ASRock drivers for kernel 2.6.35-22-generic (which broke for an entirely different reason when I upgraded to 2.6.35-25-generic) and to the in-kernel driver that was added in the higher version kernels.

Thanks for this tip, I'll try that on my ASRock HTPC to get my remote working again.

hello everyone!

does anybody know if the nuvoton-cir patch for the resume issue made it to the kernel included in natty?

Yes, resume from suspend works fine. Read my full guide here:

Maverick10.10 after upgrade from 10.04LTS - lenx - 2011-06-12

I was on 10.04 Lucid with Dharma and all working ok. I used X3lectrics dkms solution to get the remote working and it was all good. However the temptation to upgrade to 10.10 for the TRIM support was too great. After the upgrade no remote. Lots of errors when installing the asrock maverick driver. References to dkms and incompatible kernel modules/symbol tables.
As I didn't really understand exactly what the original solution was doing I struggled.
I managed to fix, hope this helps someone else:

- sudo dpkg --clear-avail
This got rid of a lot of warning messages that popped up every time i tried to do anything with lirc

-sudo apt-get remove lirc
-sudo apt-get install lirc

- sudo apt-get remove lirc-modules-src
-apt-get install lirc-modules-src
-dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-src-1.1.0-ubuntu10.10.deb(from the asrock driver zip)
-dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-1.1.0-ubuntu10.10-kernel2.6.35.deb

dpgk-reconfigure lirc

After this, irw from /etc/init.d was working ok showing button presses and with a reboot the remote for xbmc was fine.

I'm not really that clued up about linux so don't know the neccesity for installing both src and 'standard' modules. Perhaps if someone else knows what they're talking about they could explain for the benefit of those of us who are ignorant!

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

I've been struggling with my 10.10 install of XBMCLive and the Asrock remote for months now, and thanks to you it all works perfectly.

Much appreciated!
