Help with installing XBMC 9.11B2 to Acer Revo via USB stick - richard.hewett - 2009-11-28

Guys,

Can anyone help ? I've tried following various threads (such as http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=53888) but I always get stuck with the install failing to detect my CD (I obviously don't have one) and failing.

I have used unetbootin with the XBMC live iso to create the bootable USB stick, modified syslinux.cfg according to the various posts in the threads, but I still can't get past the detecting CD stage No.

A simple list of steps to follow to install XBMC on the internal HDD is what I need, and please, make them as idiot proof as possible (I'm sure I'll be able to test them well! Huh)

Thanks for your help

Ive compiled a guide for the revo here it might get you sorted. Cant take credit for anything i just gatherd information from xbmc forums and google. It was just for my refrence untill I saw people shared my problems hope it can help you out.

My advice is install the live from the guide and update via terminal or putty. I couldnt install the new 9.11 from usb it would fail and drop back to a shell. But the 2nd post of the guide will help you update.

Hmmm - here's a snippet from my syslinux.cfg:

Code:
label ubnentry6
menu label Install XBMCLive to disk
kernel /install/vmlinuz
append initrd=/install/initrd.gz vga=normal quiet preseed/file=/cdrom/install/preseed.cfg cdrom-detect/try-usb=true --

This still doesn't work, as it still tries to detect my CDROM.

What am I doing wrong ?

I am having this exact same problem. Were you able to solve this? If so, can you please give me the steps you took?

Thank you!
