if you didn't know the software would be a let down for you then yes you missed something......not to say it wont get better but if they need to bow to the corporate god's then they will be shackled on how much better it can be

Ahh, yeah I guess in that regards I have been under a rock. Earlier this year everyone was completely stoked about how bad ass the boxee box was gonna be then I stopped following along and didn't really get caught back up until after I ordered one.

I'd really like to see this happen, XBMC should be taking advantage of the fact that for the first time since the Xbox there is a standard bit of hardware that will support xbmc to 1080p at a resonable price, not to mention cool features like a full qwerty keyboard.

I was going to buy a ASrock ION330HT to run xbmc on, but this seems like a much better solution to upgrade to from my xbox.

I would be more than happy to donate to the cause to get people looking at this.

Surly D-link and boxee can see the benifits? xbmc is really no threat to boxee, they both have their benifits and I see them more as a personal preference.

D-link, if your out there reading this, and you want more sales, get in contact with the xbmc developers and release some details.

Please, make it happen.....

I'd be willing to donate as well.

I would pay 50€ more than the actual regular price for the boxee box if D-Link would offer an 'unlocked' or open version of the box on which XBMC could easily be installed...

I am willing to donate as well

Easiest method would be to catch the iso file:

http://dl.boxee.tv/version/dlink.dsm380/1.0.1.16126/boxee.iso

Next step would be to mount the iso and add the additional software. I've done this before using this method:

http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/wikixbmc/linux/ubuntu-live-cd-bouwen/

(language is all dutch, but command should the same)

The most difficult part would be to support the PowerVR VXD video card and let the GPU accellerate XBMC. Perhaps the Boxee source provide info on how to do that.

erhnam, the binaries are signed, so that is the most difficult part... http://boxeeboxwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

D-Link should release a generic version with the remote in a non-funny looking box that supports some sort of storage for $300. This is just kind of stupid right now.

You can build that easily yourself, why would D-Link want to compete with ASRock, Zotac, Acer, Shuttle, etc. ?

That chipset is quickly becoming Enemy #1 for open source media programs.

That PowerVR chipset is the backbone to many retail Intel GPUs, the Google TV and the Boxee box.

Forget donations to convert the Boxee Box. I would rather put money towards a mercenary to break into the PowerVR complex and steal that chipset's documentation.

(Yes I was joking, the only solution is to not buy anything with that chipset in it and hope that it fails).

Well I was waiting for XBMC on Boxee as I thought it would be a no brainer for D-Link / Avner and team... but ZBOX here I come! Smile

I second that ... I guess Boxee's failure is zotac's win
Which zbox version are you going for instead, Geeba?

Still, it's a shame - I was really looking forward to poking around with boxee's software/hardware
(i even got so far as being able to boot into boxees busybox from the iso file, via qemu ^^
... but considering their current attitude towards third party software etc.
I've lost my interest in "supporting" them)
