Serious Bug: XBMC crashes in the middle of streaming 720p mkv (debug log inside) - Maxwell Smart - 2010-01-05

Hi, I've recently had a problem with streaming a 720p mkv file. About halfway into the movie, xbmc exited the movie without reason and brought me back to the videos page. Attempting to restart the movie gave me the option of starting again at the point left off, but doing so was met with no response from the device. I then restarted the device, did big skips to get to the point where it crashed (which take a while ~30 seconds-1 minute per skip over the network), and when I did so, I got the same issue as it approached the same part of the movie. I restarted again and grabbed the debug file to hopefully iron this out, as I'm unsure as to what the problem is. This has happened in the past with another movie but I figured it was a one time issue. If anyone could help me it would be great, at least to restart the movie where it left off. Thanks!

(The movie in question is Paper Heart, and I have used asterisks on my password for obvious reasons)

Got the same Problem but didn't found a solution yet!! Have you trieded to copy the movie on the machine??

- Maxwell Smart - 2010-01-05

I haven't tried copying the movie to the machine as I have far to may movies for that to be a usable scenario. The exact same problem happened to me yet again while watching Logan's Run. Again I have a debut log, does anyone have any idea as to this problem?

This is a serious bug, can any devs look at these error logs and see where this bug originates.

- Maxwell Smart - 2010-01-11

I guess this bug will never be resolved, hah, cause it's causing me some serious problems Undecided

lotta read errors in that logfile. Seems it fails to read
movie files on your smb share.

Try to copy it locally and see if it's the same. might be something wrong with shares acesss rights or file access rights.

So this happened to me yet again. The strangest part of it all is that when fast forwarding to the point where it let up (because resuming through the resume/start at beginning menu never works) it crashes in an identical spot and spits me back to the file selection page. Any ideas on how I could correct this?

- Maxwell Smart - 2010-01-24

Also, copying movies locally wouldn't really work as I've got over 3TB of movies that wouldn't fit too easily on the internal hard drive.

Doesn't anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? It basically makes this box useless if it crashes in the middle of every hd movie i try to stream to it.

- cejstrup - 2010-01-25

I've seen similar problems and I'm sure they were encode related.
Maybe try running this : http://meteorite.sourceforge.net/

to see if it can fix the file.

- Maxwell Smart - 2010-01-26

This has happened on literally every .mkv HD file i've attempted to play with the revo, so I can't see it being an encode problem as the files play fine on my mac with XBMC or VLC.

- motd2k - 2010-01-26

As suggested, copy the file locally and retry.

- cejstrup - 2010-01-26

If it happens on many files it can be SMB related. Because I've had the exact same issues some time ago after switching from NFS to SMB.
Now that I've switched back to NFS it's stable again. Dunno what happens and don't have the time to debug further. Seems like others have similar issues as well.

I am seeing the same issue and glad to see others are as well.

I also find once it kicks me back out to the movie list, a lot of times if I try and resume it just sits there, sometimes freezing to the point I have to SSH into the box and reboot it. Sad

Hmmm, NFS huh? I'll definitely have to try it. I'm also glad to see this is not just a problem for me but other users as well. Does anyone have a guide on how to set up NFS file sharing for mac?
