If you are using this release:

It defaults to Cd install after some seconds in the beginning. You need to change it to install to HD.. I think it was: "Install Live to Hard Drive" or something similiar.

The default option will try and find a cd rom.

TxDot Wrote:My reason for asking is from a security perspective. I don't want ports open that don't need to be. I don't download stuff from bittorrent sites so I reckon I can stop/remove the service.

If you're going to directly expose all the ports on your XBMC box, and you care about the security of your XBMC box, you should probably not use an ISO someone else configured for you.

Instead I would either buy a router so that ports can be safely opened or else setup your own box taking the necessary precautions.

This is a weird question, but does anyone know how to turn off the browser service on Ubuntu? I'm using a WDTV in another room and everytime I reboot the XBMC box, the damn WDTV loses it's connection with the shares on a totally separate server. This happened with one of my other PC's and when I disable the computer browser service on it, it fixed things. What is the equivalent service on Ubuntu. I'm assuming it's a line on the smb.conf file. The following is what it says. Do I need to add the OS level line and make it "0"? Thanks for any suggestions.

[global]
preferred master = no
local master = no
domain master = no
client lanman auth = yes
lanman auth = yes
name resolve order = bcast host
workgroup = WORKGROUP

I'm not sure but the tvheadend isn't part of the official 9.11 xbmc release. I only removed some referentials from the SDK package.

was having issues with BluRay playback on your live builds.
Downgrading to makemkv 1.4.11 helped with the issue as described in their forums
appreciate if you can do the same in the next builds

thanks

The version I'm using is already 1.4.11, so it must be something else..

Im still having the issue of Loading up a Blu-Ray in the internal player of the Asrock. Start script -> 100% complete -> Script just close without any action.

Is there anything im missing the set-up?

Running v10 of Erhnams disc.

TIA, M

Maybe someone here can help you: http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67420&page=7

My next version will contain makemkv 1.4.12. Hopefully it will work for you then.

Kind of new to all this linux stuff, but how do i either delete or update the skins? I install v10 and the skins are in the /usr/share/xbmc/skin directory but when i try to do anything i get permsission denied. any help will be great.

Thanks

Nevermind with a little linux command research i found how to delete a directory. Btw Amazing Live Disc

You can also FTP skins over to the skin directory that's located under /home/xbmc/ path without getting any errors.

On the subject of your question, though (and, yes, off-topic), how does one go about FTPing files over to the protected directories? I've been using putty and editing appropriate files (e.g., xorg.conf) that way, and just copying/pasting from my Windows laptop over to the putty window, and that works OK, but there must be a way to FTP the files over directly, without getting permission denied errors, no?

Not sure what you mean by "directly expose all the ports". The xbmc box is behind a router.

It seems to me that the xbmcfreak ISO provided by erhnam is considered "safe" by a large number of people as evidenced by the number of downloads.

Yeah i know i can ftp the skins over, but the live cd puts them in a protected dir, just had to figure out how to delete it in putty with the right permissions, since i wanted to update the skins with git but it wouldn't let me

edit, new post instead.

log in with root and you will be able to store them in /usr/share/xbmc/skin/
