V.13 download link works.

-FX-RIDER- Wrote:First of all... Test if MakeMKV is really running correctly. Had this problem once, it was an old MakeMKV install, not the script. To test the script, login over ssh into yout htpc (for example with Putty), then login with your xbmc user and then just try to start makemkv. Type makemkv. Then you will see what kind of attributes there are. Try to start the makemkv with the correct attribute for your bd-rom. Then you will see if the disc is loaded or you'll get an error message that your MakeMKV is too old.

Sorry, I'm fairly new to linux commands. From what I know, I loaded up XBMC then pressed ctrl/alt F2. Signed in...then type makemkv...didn't work, so I typed in sudo makemkv. didn't work. I know I'm doing it wrong, cause I don't know what ssh or Putty is. The error message I get is 'makemkv: error while loading shared libraries: libQtGui.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

This version should have the latest Makemkv right, I'm using the XBMCfreak v14 disc.

Wouldn't say it this way, I had no luck with this script out of the box, too!
According to your error message some packages are missing, can't say if this are MakeMKV or Linux specific packages. I'm running the generic v4 liveCD from xbmcfreak, the v14 is based on this. So try may way of getting it to work. Follow this tutorial:

http://bloggingabout.com/bluray-playback-xbmc-plugin.html

I followed this, works like a charm... perhaps you'll have to update ALSA if sound is not working.

Report if it worked... Laugh

I was getting all excited...typing away the commands, until I got to wget.

I get an error: -bash: wget: command not found

I got a hold of Putty...and I get the same message. (by the way, Putty is pretty cool) Man...I think I remember using wget sometime before doing something similar. Don't know what's wrong now. I tried to go straight into su but Authentication failed...I supposed that that's normal. Searching right now to see how to get wget to work...(tried sudo wget...didn't work)

figured it out... `sudo apt-get install wget` - now on with getting this bluray thing working! =)

Shocked Your the Man! Cool Worked! Obviously doesn't work with AVATAR but Hurt Locker played...and with Sound! Thanks for your help!

Edit: Do I need to go through this process again when I update/reinstall XBMC LIVE?

Hey Sinjin!

congratulations... I'm a linux noob, too. I know the warm, happy feeling when things start to work... Nod

I learned two things from your work: 1st, don't have to buy Avatar on BluRay... won't work due to copyprotection, and 2nd with an newer XBMC live CD, perhaps I didn't have to struggle with my sound output over HDMI... Oo

I'm afraid, that when you install a new XBMC live version, you'll have to do it again... Because it's then perhaps a new kernel or even a complete fresh install. Perhaps someone can explain this in more detail than I'm able to ... Wink

Well, nice live-cd especially for us ION users. The only thing which keeps me from using it is that i'd like to rather use exact mode timings like 23,97 etc. which i can only get using this http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=70068 instructions but sadly they are not possible in your version somehow. Some libaries are missing for it to work and when i try to install e.g. libgtk2.0-0 via apt-get it says that there are several broken dependencies to required packages since you are probably using other versions in your distro which doesn't match. So i'll stick to my on-top install on ubuntu 9.10 for now.

Worked perfectly for me, I have installed to hdd though - don't think that would make any diff tho

Ugg, I had erhnam's 9.11v11 installed on my Asrok ION330HT and it worked pretty well except all the known issues so I wanted to update. I tried the newest generic release from xbmcfreak.nl and it has so many show stopper bugs it won't even install without significant hacking. So I went back to the 9.11v14 download. That installs but fails to start xbmc properly. I get 'gave up waiting for root device'. I'm trying v13 now. Hopefully that works...

Argh. Nope same thing. 'gave up waiting for root device' after the splash screen for xbmc. At the end of the error it says 'ALERT! /dev/mapper/XBMCLive-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell!'

Perhaps I should not be using the LVM option to partition the drive?

This one has issues. Please don't use it.

- Paladin2187 - 2010-04-28

Ah yeah. 9.11v14 is working now that I stopped trying to use the LVM option when partitioning. Just using the 'use entire disk' option fixed it. Sweet.

erhnam
Thanks for the answer
When to wait release 10-04-livecd ?
