erhnam Wrote:After today's kernel upgrade (2.6.32-23-generic #37) the bug appears to
be fixed. No more weird MAC addresses after reboots! :-)

Mine version still contains 2.6.32-22. I'll create a new one with the later version.

Cant wait! Big Grin

I used unetbootin on Windows 7 and was able to boot off the usb stick :\

erhnam: you know it might not be a bad idea to just do a "vanilla" distribution - i for one don't need all the sabnzbd/transmission/etc type stuff.

I like that to. I always uninstall those things. Right now im waiting for the bug-fixed version for Nvidia Nforce Macadress bug.

everything works great tested out aeon it works great

the main thing i notice is that with v14 i had 5 seconds load time with music

now it loads instantly. all movies play great haven't tested suspend or hibernate.

do have some unknown user flash at the top before it enters xbmc? don't know what that is dosent seem to affect anything

Just installed the 10.08 on my new XBMC box using the hard drive from my old XBMC box. I went ahead and reused my old home partition, but noticed a bit too late that the installer doesn’t create some things like .asoundrc when it’s not creating a home directory but reusing an hold one. I’ve created .asoundrc, but I need to know what else was not created because I did this the way I did. Is there anywhere I get get a list?

Just installed the new version. Working well except I can't get a command line up which I need to mount local drives and install xbox 360 controller keymap.xml. I just get a blank screen when I use any of the ctl-alt-function keys. (psst can you add xbox 360 support to the next build?)

Any ideas why I'm getting a blank screen and how I can fix it?

Did you do anything special or just run unetbootin, select the iso, select the USB stick, and click go?

Update: I downloaded the latest 471 version of unetbootin, ran it from Win 7 and selected the 10.08 iso and it all worked out (from USB).

I tried using unetbootin 377 on Windows 7 with the xbcmfreak-10.08-svn31440-lucid1 iso but I couldn't get it to boot. I also tried to follow the instructions from the bootable usb key installation link that was posted earlier, but I kept getting an error saying "/dev/sdX does not have any corresponding BIOS drive." (note this was done from my existing XBMC-Live install which I just screwed up the XBMC app last night.

---edit---- (8:40 CST)
I just reformatted the disk to FAT32 and re-ran Unetbootin, but used version 471 this time and it looks like it's getting me past the CD-Rom issue... I'll keep trying and update how it goes.

---edit--- (8:44 CST)
Being that I already had XBMC installed previously (as well as still had Windows on the main disk, but a different partition) when I got to the partitioner I chose the manual mode then deleted the two XBMC (Ubuntu) partitions. After deleting them, I went back to guided and chose the option to use the largest continuous free space. It is now repartitioning and installing.

--edit-- (8:47 CST)
Created new user... grub installing and detecting other OSes. Powering back up with USB removed. Now seeing new grub with higher resolution boot selection. Selected UBUNTU. Now loading Ubuntu.

Showing login screen. Wait. Automatically loads XBMC. Back to the XBMC HOTNESS! Man, that was way easier than I expected. Now I just have to test it all out and recustomize all the stuff I had added before. Wink

Not sure if it's helpful to others, but I always enable automounting whenever I do a new installation. That way my external drives (USB) will automatically be accessible from within XBMC without having to do anything special. It looks like it's slightly different under grub2, so I posted a quick blog post on how to do it here: Set XBMC to Automount Drives

ffmpeg is included in XBMC (see SVN for the version).
Nvidia version is the current version on Ubuntu's Lucid repo. (nvidia-glx-185 195.36.24)
