I'm not quite sure what to make of this. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Hi, do you have x11-apps/xrandr installed? Xbmc 9.11 is working?

Post an emerge -pv xbmc please.

- eddieparker - 2010-01-13

Thanks for the reply snake.

I did not in fact have xrandr installed, nor was I building from the ebuild - instead I was building straight from the git depot release.

I've since rectified both those, but it still crashes, albeit with slightly more information.

Code:
root@jazz:/root [0]
$ emerge -pv xbmc

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Ok, I need the last trace of the failed emerge log, a little bit more than what you placed in you're post. In the meantime try to set you're USE flags like mine:

Code:
[ebuild   R   ] media-tv/xbmc-9999  USE="aac alsa opengl sse sse2 vdpau xrandr (-altivec) -avahi -css -debug -joystick -midi -profile -pulseaudio" 0 kB

Just unset 'vdpau' and/or 'sse2' if you're hardware don't support them, then emerge again 9.11, maybe you're missing some depends. Is the system up to date?

If you wanna stay 'bleeding edge' you can use the media-tv/xbmc-9999 ebuild which always fetch directly from the svn repository, without having to do it manually.

Quote: * If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
Use pastebin and post your whole build log from /var/tmp/portage/media-tv/xbmc-9.11/temp/build.log

Me too. Installed xbmc-9999 first time. Menus & music works, but segfaults when trying to play video with vdpau. Also vdpau hq-scaling option is missing in configuration (GF GT 220).

Code:
vdr ~ # emerge -pv xbmc

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] media-tv/xbmc-9999  USE="aac alsa opengl sse sse2 vdpau (-altivec) -avahi -css -debug -joystick -midi -profile -pulseaudio -xrandr" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

mhh, tried with 190.X series drivers? Did you install nvidia-drivers using the ebuild?

Does the command

Code:
eselect opengl list

show 'nvidia' marked?

I've a perfectly working gentoo xbmc-box on a zotac ION 330, with 9.11 and svn ebuild, so hopefully you're problems could be fixed.

@P.Kosunen
Latest SVN displays garbage video with vdpau on my htpc. So I suggest to enable "xrandr" use flag and emerge xbmc-9.11 from portage. After that select debugging in xbmc, and post full debug log on pastebin.

I have r26703 (yesterday fetch) and no problem at all with vdpau and xrandr use. Which version did you install?

mrto Wrote:So I suggest to enable "xrandr" use flag and emerge xbmc-9.11 from portage.

My tv can do only 50Hz so no need for xrandr? I'll try 9.11.

Edit: media-tv/xbmc-9.11 = ok.

In that case xrandr is not need.

Alright, sorted my ebuild out. Turns out distcc was failing. I disabled distcc, emerge -e world xbmc and it all compiles out fine now.

That said, I still get the crash, but this time there's a valid call stack.

Hrmm, not sure if this is related, but, an excerpt from another openGL application's bug [1]:

Quote:Created an attachment (id=207811) [details]
OpenGL calls moved after OpenGL initialization.

It seems, that the OpenGL functions are called before the OpenGL is properly
initialized that may result in SIGSEGV on some architectures/video drivers
(e.g. with intel_video).

I am using intel_video. Does xbmc do anything similar to what this person is describing?

Just wanted to let you know that I had the same issue on openSuSE 11.2. I got around it by installing Camelot RC1 from svn, trunk was no good (forgot revision number, but it was yesterday, jan. 19th 2010)

I hope this helps in narrowing the bug down, right now, I'm pretty happy running RC1

Best

Martin

Please don't advise people to use older versions as a workaround... let's get to the bottom of it instead.

Please try again with use=xrandr and report back.
