SBS subtitles within XBMC - benjicoh - 2011-07-10

I patched 10.1 xbmc version for enabling 3d half SBS subtitles

To install the patch do the following

1. Ensure you have 10.1 Dharma version

2. rename XBMC.exe to XBMC.exe.nom

3. Extract XBMC.exe from here to your XBMC root directory

4. under language/English

a. rename strings.xml to strings.xml.nom

b. Extract from the link above strings.xml to language/English

To view SBS 3D with subtitles

1. When playing a movie go to the video OSD -> Audio and subtitles settings -> check the 3d side by side subtitles

Happy 3D Smile

Wow, this came out of nothing and was a great surprise! Does this "only" fix the sub titles or also helps with previously inferior playback. I understand that so far, half-SBS played, but quality was below compared to playing the same half-SBS file with for example a Samsung DVD player. Read that the reason was XBMC's / NVIDIA's post-processing, which was destroying some of the 3D effect?

Sorry its just to fix the subtitles

Thanks! going to try that now.

UPDATE: Works perfect! (needed to change subtitle size from standard 24 to 20 to make them fit)

3d Bluray ISOs - fyrfyter71 - 2011-07-31

Not sure if this would be the right place to post this, so if it should be asked somewhere else just let me know. Here goes:

I am currently using a pre-Eden nightly. I have a collection of movies that are mostly mkv, iso, and blu-ray folders, all of which are played flawlessly with the new build. I also have a small collection of 3d bluray isos. A few of the 3d isos play perfectly in 2d without using any external player. But it seems most of them have a small problem where they start out and play the first few minutes, then they restart and play about 20 minutes then restart. Now I know that this build is probably not even supposed to play a 3d bluray, but is there any way the built in player could handle this task (in 2d)? I don't mind using TMT5 to play the movies in 3d, but TMT5 has serious issuses playing a 3d bluray in 2d. Most of the time I would rather just watch my movies in 2d without getting out the glasses. Not to mention it's just easier for the wife and kids.

Also while I'm asking difficult questions, is it possible for me to put a separate movie section just for 3d movies, and when I pick out of this section, have it launch an external player just for this section. While also having these movies listed in the general movies section, and having the xmbc player lauch out of this section?

Sorry for all the noob questions, just trying to see if I can make this perfect for my needs.

By the way, thanks for all the latest improvements to make xmbc so great. I can't wait for the AE branch to be merged into the nightlies so I can watch with DTS-HD/TRUE-HD.

Thanks in advance.

Brent

Hi,
there is any possibility make this patch for Linux version of XBMC ... git EDEN ??

Actually not!!
Because standard viewing mode is set to 'normal' it scales the video according to your calibration setting I assume. Result is that the 3d content is not properly layed over each other in tv 3d mode.
When you set the viewing mode to original it still is somehow screwed. You will notice with hardcoded subtitles.

Conclusion: XBMC internal player is NOT SUITED as it is right now to play 3d SBS content (I mean, the full side by side picture, not a prefed 3d image as with nvidia 3dtv play)!!!

Unless someone can point me to the direction to get a proper allignment I dish XBMC for my 3D movie experience for now

Here it plays just fine. Nod
All my 3D SBS MKV and M2TS work just fine.
Absolutly no problem here on my Acer 3d Beamer.

I don't player with any stretch and zoom settings. No
Every pixel is there where it should be.

@benjicoh, your change sounds interesting, can you please make the code available, maybe even submit a pull request?

- Nabuchodonosor - 2011-09-16

@benjicoh You're violating GPL license of xbmc by releasing binary without source code, consequence is it cannot be used by linux/mac users, and cannot be included in official version.

- snelvuur - 2011-09-20

Would be nice indeed, since i run linux..

@benjicoh: please shed some light so others can enjoy too and it can be added to the main branch perhaps.

he kinda did post "sources" here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=836439#post836439

here's diff I made from his file some time ago but totally forgot about it (not having 3d tv didn't help here ;p) https://gist.github.com/244af9c006c12e0a8664 (it's for dharma - dunno if it will cleanly patch current master)

Thanks. Anyone knows whether the patches to get sub-titles work will make it to the Eden release?
