XBMC uses a lot of CPU - herlock - 2010-01-22

Hello,

I've installed XBMC from ppa on Ubuntu Karmic on a ASRock ION 330HT.

I'd like to let my ASRock running 24/7 because it has server process.

However, even when I don't use XBMC, it uses 25 - 30% of my CPU

Code:
1775 media     20   0  513m  89m  29m S   [b]39[/b]  6.0   6:57.46 xbmc.bin

Do you have any idea ?

Thank you

This is normal as far as I am aware. I have an ASRock myself that I leave on all the time, and XBMC uses about that much to idle. What I found was that if you set the screensaver to "Black" and not dim or anything else, cpu usage goes down significantly (to about 5%) while the screensaver is on.

Search, this is normal. Even when idle xbmc still renders the gui at 60fps. You can change this by setting it to dim on idle which will lower it, or set it to black on idle which pretty much stops it.

It'll drop further if you suspend/sleep the display
I also find CPU usage is lower for the PM3.HD skin which is what I prefer to use. I can't easily let go of a skin i've been using for so long.
