- Lister of Smeg - 2010-03-18

I have a ATI HD5450 and am using the latest SVN. When i enable DXVA the screen flickers constantly almost like the refresh is wrong :confused2:

DXVA works fine in other apps like MPC-HC so it must be XBMC related.

Does anyone have the same issue? Or workarounds?

I have created a specific thread for this issue located here:-

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=506966#post506966

Thanks

elupus Wrote:The problem is that one needs to completely reinit the decoder when resolution changes. For some reason this goes foobar at times. I'm not sure why.

Make sure you have the option in settings enabled that makes us use a emulated fullscreen windows instead of actual fullscreen. I've seen that cause problems.

Hey elupus,

This may have been covered, but lost in the forum crash Wink Where does this issue stand? I am experiencing the same thing. If I have adjust display refresh rate, I get sound with a black screen for a couple of seconds, then crash. I know you said to try using the emulated fullscreen, but this gives me a lot stuttering.

I'm running Win 7 on an Eee Box EB1012
Rev: 28274

I know that one is a couple weeks old, but there were scraper issues with the newer build I tried. I see in today's changelog that JM may have fixed those issues.

It sounds like you know what is causing the issue. I am away from my house right now, but if a debug log of the crash would help, I can supply one when I get home.

Cheers,
Rand

Nothing in regard to dxva has changed since ages ago (the initial problem with garblad apple video). I'm holding of any other works untill we get an updated ffmpeg into xbmc, since that might fix issues.

What's the difference between DXVA2 and DXVA?

My Acer Revo 1600 is pretty weak and doesn't run Windows 7 that good... (and I doubt Vista would be much faster)

- onclebob - 2010-03-19

sofakng> i have a PackarbBell imax C2600 wich is a Revo 1600 clone. i dedicated it to xbmc, it runs (almost) perfectly with DXVA2 on Win7.

DXVA2 is the new version of DXVA, Win Vista or Seven emulate the first version. They don't use it natively (as i know..).

Really? When I tried Windows 7 Media Center it was extremely sluggish and was a pretty bad experience. (Granted, this was W7MC and not XBMC but W7MC runs fine on my other PCs so I was assuming that Windows 7 itself was the problem)

What's the advantage to running XBMC under Windows instead of Linux?

The one reason I was thinking about it was because the Windows nVidia drivers support 16-235 color levels so the GUI will look correct. (the Linux drivers don't support this and so the GUI is almost black for me)

For those that get green screens or stuttering, do you have the same problem with all mkv-files you play or is it only a few of them?

See, I haven't tested more than one movie (and only a couple of minutes), but it works great and my CPU is below 10% all the time (used to be around 30% before enabling DXVA).

i think xbmc runs better on linux (and there is a lot of config sample on the forum). I use Window because i don't know linux. But i think i will give it a try.

Ps: about win7 on my revo clone, it's not perfect for multitask, but just using xbmc is fine!

Im using vista 32 shrinked and a cheap ass system with a geforce 8400gs. DXVA works spledidly for me. If i can only get rid of that standby/wakeup jerkiness...
Havent tried apple trailers yet but a gaziilon of mkv's all played glitchless. Acutually i have yet to fined a video that xmb doesen't chew well. The funny thing is that now SD divxes uses more cpu power than 1080p, 720p Mkv's (to be fair, alamost all). Funny tho. Big Grin

Used the lastest nightly build, on Win 7 revo 3610 with Ion video once installed all my mkv movies on 1080p only go in the top left hand corner of the screen filling only 1/4 of it and sd files look worse than the stable xbmc . Any idea why some people are getting this 1/4 screen playback ? I have the same XBMC build on my main pc with hd2400 ati and vista and not having that problem it runs fine so im bewildered.

Try reinstalling your video drivers. I was seeing a 'half-screen' issue (Gt 220) and after reinstalling the drivers was back to full screen.

or also try the latest dsplayer build....its pretty stable (for file playback...no dvd disc playback yet...but maybe dvd playback should be left to dvdplayer anyway).

Well tried updating nvidia drivers and still the same. When the lastest nightly build is applied even sd playback is sluggish and doesnt look good at all and forget the hd stuff it stutters like crazy almost like dxva isnt working at all. I have toggled in video settings dxv on and off also on auto select. Still only goes to a small box in the corner when going to dxv on?. Might try dsplayer I guess just dont understand unless it is a win 7 thing that is the problem as my pc on vista is no prob. I wonder if win 7 being 64 bit matters

- dbldown768 - 2010-03-21

ok, i tried reading this whole huge thread and I guess the info screen from 'O' is supposed to show dc: DXVA but I am still seeing ff-h264? I tried enabling DXVA in rendering playback? I am using Windows 7 x86 and my video card specs are in my signature.

I installed the build from here http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/ and used the march 01 r28256. btw, it looks like it is using dvdPlayer not dsplayer.
