DSPlayer's the other thread.

well i guess what I ment to write was should it be using dvdplayer or dsplayer? I wanted to use the new DXVA2 for playback of my h264 mkv files. So far it still appears that I using the old way of decoding which is using my cpu. Is there something special in advancesettings that needs to be setup inorder to use this? did i grab the correct build? All i did was grab the build from the nightly link and install it.

Does this build require that i first setup the dsplayer as mention in the wiki, or is it as simple and download and install.

Download this build:

http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/xbmc-r28256-trunk.exe

Then in video settings enable dxva under render settings.

thanks, but this is exactly what i downloaded and changed in the render settings and I still see the ff.h264 instead of DXVA

I am presuming your OS is either Vista or Win7, as this implementation of DXVA is compatible only with those Windows versions. If you are using XP, then you will have to use the DSPlayer builds.

Where exactly are you 'seeing' that you are using ff.h264?

yes i am using windows 7 x86 ultimate version. are there any other special settings needed? i posted a clip of my log file if that helps at all?

See, I haven't tested more than one movie (and only a couple of minutes), but it works great and my CPU is below 10% all the time (used to be around 30% before enabling DXVA).

all mkvs for me. I've tried many. all I get is a full GREEN screen, with nothing on it.

Sorry I didn't see your previous post with the partial log attached. No special settings required other than setting the render to DVXA, which you have already said you have done.

I'm no expert and I'm not sure quite what we would expect to see when playing DXVA natively from xbmc nightly builds. The only way I have ever checked is to press the letter 'O' on the keyboard while playing a movie and check the cpu usage on screen. If it is in the single to early teen bracket then I have assumed it is working. Perhaps not scientific, but with my lack of knowledge it works for me.

- dbldown768 - 2010-03-22

It "may" be working. I was expecting to see dc: DXVA on the onscreen information that comes up when you press 'O'. Somewhere in this long thread i saw that it was supposed to say that, but now that I think about it, that might be what shows up in boxee?

The cpu did seem fairly low. I just thought it might have been a part of the movie that wasnt very cpu intensive. I did play my planet earth videos I encoded and they were around 2% - 10% so I guess it is working? Would be nice if you could add DXVA to the onscreen overly just like the VDPAU was added in linux if that is possible.

With that level of utilisation I think it is safe to assume it "is" working Big Grin, You're right about Boxee, it does confirm.

http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset/28734

looks like ffmpeg is being updated.

- steelman1991 - 2010-03-22

What does that mean, for those of us who can't build from svn?

- Sylus - 2010-03-22

Nothing. You can only wait until the merge is over and the nightly builds are stable enough to be published again.

- steelman1991 - 2010-03-22

My bad. I appreciate and know that. I was more interested in what advantages/changes others who can compile from svn had found.

- SlaveUnit - 2010-03-22

Well since elupus is popping the newer one in, he might give this more attention now. I know he said he was waiting for the new ffmpeg before proceeding on troubleshooting the DXVA. I would like to know what changes the new one has to video play as well. Maybe the ffmpeg page might way something about it.
