Yup, that worked. The mess window now opens, but the UI focus is still on XBMC. This has something to do with xbmc standalone: everything works fine when launching xbmc from within the XBMCbuntu shell. I'm guessing I need to use solo mode if trying to launch emulator windows in xbmc standalone?

Yes. After fixing the quote position, I had hoped solo mode would fix the issue with xbmc standalone not giving focus to the emulator. Solo mode kills xbmc, launches the emulator, and then immediately starts xbmc again. This must have something to do with the emulator not being recognized.
For now I'm running xbmc from the XBMCbuntu shell, since things work there, but I'd like to use xbmc standalone if possible. Any thoughts?

XBMC re-launches when the emulator application exits. If it does that almost immediately there's something wrong with your command line. Does mess have an option for logging stuff to a file? That should give you a hint of what's going on.

Bug:
When using network share, it's saving the path as //SERVER/location and not smb://SERVER/location for artwork ... this causes problems when playing videos. It will load the first video, but none after that. It also is saving the last directory in the path with a backslash '\' instead of a forward slash, but after testing this is only a cosmetic issue and doesn't cause any playback/viewing issues from what i can tell.
I ran the following statement against the db:

Something strange is happening with my RCB - I can't add my mame collection. Ive followed these instructions and everything adds fine, but when I go to edit the offline scraper there is no mame offline scraper available, and if I add a rom collection after that i am abe to select mame as a new system. There are no entries in the config.xml file refeereing to mame, its like RCB doesnt make any changes. Here is where it gets stranger, for me it doesnt work in versions 1.0.1, 1.0.5, 1.0.8 or 1.1.1 with Frodo RC2. I had perviously had mame installed in RCB on this machine but I removed the collection when I switched HDD's. Rescanning an exisiting collection works fine.
For anyone interested here is my xbmc.log file. (It was to big for pastebin so its a zip file on dropbox), Here is config.xml file.
I cant seem to find anything pointing to why mame isnt being added in the logs, can anyone else see anything? Im positive its a bug on my setup but I dont know whats causing it.

XBMC is having trouble with adding smb paths, so we added this replacement function to add your files via smb. For me it works this way even with video. I will see if I can add an option for users that have issues with this way. But this has to wait until one of the next releases. This one one is already prepared for being sent to the repo.

Has anybody tried the combination of running the RCB from a linux client (in my case a Raspberry Pi) and having the ROMs on a NAS (also linux) ?
I'm setting up a SNES collection, but it doesn't start the import process when the games are on the NAS. If I copy one game to the local emulation folder on the RaspBerry Pi it does start to import the game. It then fails with this error message:
RCB_ERROR: Could not create directory: 'smb://NAS/Emulation/SNESGames/Artwork'. Error message: '[Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'smb://NAS/Emulation/SNESGames/Artwork''
Tried the same thing with NFS, but that fails too. Anybody got a solution for this except having everything locally where the RCB is running? The Raspberry Pi only uses a memory card and I really do not want to use the little space I have on a bunch of ROMs and artwork.

Hey malte! Rbc works great and I'm using the latest version 1.1.1 with frodo rc2. But now after I launch a game and then quit it, I won't return to xbmc. I don't really know when it stopped working. The Htpc is running windows 7 x64. And I can't play any videos either, everything is stored locally. I used the same config that I created in Eden, could that be an issue? Cheers!

I'm using Aeon Nox 4, latest GIT. And I'm not using solo mode, it always worked without before, and that's how I'd like to have it, I don't really want to relaunch XBMC every time.

I was wondering how to add multiple disc games correctly. I searched this topic, and it seems it's possible, but I don't understand how. I also searched the wiki, with no luck.

Hi,
I am having difficulties adding PSX games (cue/bin).
When I add the rom collection and try to import the games, RCB is stuck at importing games. When I try to cancel, it just wait endless for cancelling import.
Other rom collections are no problem (snes, nes, genesis etc).
The file mask I am using is *.cue, but I also tried *.bin.
Is it possible to add psx games in this format?

I've noticed when a game has a non-ascii character in it, the NFO doesn't get written.
i.e. Pokemon Snap (USA).zip for N64 doesn't get an nfo written because the scraped game has an accented e in Pokemon.
edit: it doesn't even add the game at all after second look
