Hi Davilla, I have the same problem reported by people above : crystal hd video sutters after hitting pause/play. This is with the latest svn. Here's xbmc.log :

My setup : eeebox b202 with BCM70012

XBMC Dharma Beta 4

Mac Mini 1.83GHz C2D running OS X 10.5 with a BCM70015 and drivers installed/loaded according to this. I'm using v3.6.0 of the CrystalHD drivers. As soon as I play an MKV that I ripped directly from a Blu Ray disk, the screen freezes and the audio plays, I don't see any video frames, and the mouse pointer generates trails. XBMC doesn't crash, and pressing "X" stops the playback normally, and the UI is accessible again. I can stop and start playback over and over again without any trouble, but I don't see any video.

I can successfully play the clip if I don't use the CrystalHD card (i.e., I disable hardware acceleration in Video Settings).

xbmc.log: http://pastebin.com/Pv6XAdHm
dmesg: http://pastebin.com/urnVedr7
100MB sample: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7619655/small.mkv
mediainfo: http://pastebin.com/mamDNZhL

With Dharma Beta 2, if I play and stop enough times, frames are actually decoded and displayed, but there are lots of dropped frames and stuttering as soon as there are non-black frames to display. At that point, the video and audio become very, very choppy.

xbmc.log (Beta 2): http://pastebin.com/K0Tmw86T
dmesg (Beta 2): http://pastebin.com/02s5AM0D

Does anything look obviously wrong? It seems like other folks are having more luck than me. For what it's worth, I get exactly the same behavior with the 2.0.1 drivers, and I upgraded to OS 10.6.4 (just for kicks, really) with no change.

EDIT: I just built and installed r174, and I'm getting exactly the same results as above with that move (Batman Begins). If I turn off hardware acceleration, the clip plays just fine with no frame drops, just at around 150% CPU utilization.

I just tried a different Blu Ray rip - Saving Private Ryan - and it works just fine using CrystalHD hardware acceleration at about 50% CPU. I only have these two Blu Rays at the moment, but the issue seems to be limited to Batman Begins.

Confirm, also same problems with BCM70015, apple TV and Dharma beta 4.

Question, is there a easy way to upload dmesg; xbmc.log etc. from a Apple TV directly to xbmc.pastebin.com?

Tried first with Crystal HD r174, later with r156

Last time I used it was about 10 Month ago with one of the first releases but I had not enough time to finish my installation. How is the chance, that the Card is not broken and dead?

CrystalHD with USB HDD - Tekniques10 - 2010-11-15

Hi all,
I bought and installed the bmc70015 to an older 40GB Apple TV that had a external 250GB USB hard drive hanging off it. Install of card, drivers (using ATVFlash) and XBMC recognising it worked fine however streaming playback of 1080p stuttered, buffered etc and some 720p was also bad.
So I decided to test by installing another Crystal Card in a 160GB Apple TV I had with no external storage. All 1080p streamed perfectly.... Got me thinking, the hard drive is probably used during streaming as a temporary buffer for playback so could the issues on the 40GB model with external HDD be due to slow performance accessing the HDD via USB?
I removed the external HDD and reverted to using the internal storage on the 40GB ATV and sure enough 1080p and below worked perfectly!
So I'm now thinking of dumping the external storage via USB idea and upgrading the internal HDDs to larger capacity instead to ensure faster disk access via the PATA interface whle streaming HD movies. My 1080p movies were mostly 4-5GB MP4,MKV's, H264...
Hope this helps a few!
.

Having problem with beta3 up to RC1.

Tried renaming ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC to something like XBMC.old and viola it solved my problem.

Hope this could help people having the same problem with beta3 and up (osx with crystal hd). Dont forget to export your database first to prevent rebuild of your library.

- bokbokan - 2010-11-20

Sorry after some testings still having the same problem with build after beta 2.

- davilla - 2010-11-20

The typical output that we need to see under osx/atv(osx) are a) kextstat, b) dmesg, and c) xbmc.log

dmesg will show driver load details, don't grep it for crystalhd, full output please.

kextstat will show which driver version is loaded.

xbmc.log will show the load of crystalhd lib and open. again, don't grep it, full output please. Keep the log short by only doing enough to show the problem. If video playback related, let the video play for 5-10 mins WITHOUT doing anything else not related to showing the problem, that means don't go nav'ing about in menus, etc. they fill the log with unrelated output that makes it harder to see what's going on.

And as always, which chd card, which chd driver/lib version and if running rc1, turn on debug logging, rc1 is a release build and that has debug logging turned off.

Right now, I only care about RC1 and forward, so bug reports about beta3/beta4 will be ignored.
