- calibos - 2010-09-10 18:46 ToBe Wrote:@calibos I did bother to read the whole thread. My problem is that it started to get confusing as more people purchased the things and started posting in the thread. Some guy posts he got feature X & Y working out of the box with xbmc-live A release, another guy posts he got Y and Z working out of the box with XBMC-live B release but not feature X. Very quickly I didn't know which feature was working for which guy with which firmware and drivers and with which release!! ![]() I was hoping that if I posted what features I needed working and how I would be using XBMC with the desire for the minimum of messing around with drivers and linux code/scripts, that maybe someone would be ble to tell me, "Yeah those features are working out of the box with XBMC live 9.*** " Basically what JVdb posted as it turns out. That combined with your contribution is almost all the info I needed to help me make a decision. Would I be right in saying that while getting the HDaudio via HDMI is still problematic that there is however minimal linux knowledge required to get Stereo over HDMI(which is all I need) Put it this way, my only experience with linux is the software for modding me old xboxes! Or are you saying that 2.0 over HDMI is also working out of the box? If so, brilliant! As for the DNS323 NAS. I fully intend to replace them with an Unraid server within a few months. I am buying two machines soon but ultimately we will have 6 XBMC clients in the house. I will probably be doing the central SQL database thingie. Look I know unraid server OS and setting up SQL and all that malarkey is way more complicated than the linux stuff I might have to do to get these first boxes setup and in the fullness of time I will learn it but at the moment I don't have the time to get to grips with linux and need two new XBMC machines right now and thats why I am enquiring about the easiest plug and play solution right now. Eventually I will become proficient and I can start making my contribution to helping the newbies. Oh yeah! Last stupid question. Do I need a HDD at all of I am using Live on a usb stick?:o - jss21382 - 2010-09-11 05:19 I installed the dharma beta 1 on a id-11 a few days ago, out of the box hdmi audio is inoperative. Having little linux knowledge I was able to get it working in about an hour the first time, could probably do it in much less if I did it again. The biggest problem I found is the instructions people are posting assume you know how to use linux. So, you can do it, if you take the time to read up on the usage of putty, nano, wget, mkdir, and tar. Once you understand those the Chron0's instructions on I think page 3 will make sense and be really helpful, until then it's just confusing. - jvdb - 2010-09-11 10:12 calibos Wrote:Oh yeah! Last stupid question. Do I need a HDD at all of I am using Live on a usb stick?:o You don't need a hard drive. I am using this thumb drive (recommended by someone else on this board): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220251&cm_re=patriot_xt-_-20-220-251-_-Product I suspect that a hard drive would be both faster and waste less CPU. (USB 2.0 devices typically take a lot more CPU for transfers). I intend to buy an SSD for mine when I find a decent price. Wish I'd caught this one: http://dealnews.com/OCZ-32-GB-2.5-SATA-Internal-SSD-Drive-for-50-after-rebate-free-shipping/386338.html The most suitable remote for xbmc - longnguyen - 2010-09-11 16:42 This is native keyboard, no need any configuration, just plug and play: (only 50$)
- wiz561 - 2010-09-12 02:39 Hi all... I just picked this box up yesterday and so far, I'm liking it. I found that it wasn't bad to get it up and running, and made a wiki page available for those who may need help installing it. A lot of the commands I did off the top of my head, but hopefully it will help anybody that's having problems. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:_Install_XBMC_on_ZBOXHD-ID11 Please let me know or make changes to it as you see need fit. Thanks! - weiuweiu - 2010-09-12 03:09 wiz561 Wrote:Hi all... I just picked this box up yesterday and so far, I'm liking it. Great guide! I just got a SSD drive, so I'm going to be installing one of the newer XBMCFreak Live CDs, and this will be very helpful. Thanks for putting that together. - wiz561 - 2010-09-12 05:08 weiuweiu Wrote:Nice guide Thanks. I'm hoping that this guide helps out a lot of people. It's a little frustrating to try to search out documents that tell you how to fix problems and it just takes forever. Hopefully by having a one-stop shop, it will turn more people onto the project and strike more interest to keep the project going! The BIOS part. I don't have a DOS box in front of me now so I don't know what all the switches do... But if you type in "afudos /?", or try just "afudos", it will explain what each switch does. The only thing I remember is that it flashes more than just the bios. But again, I'd do the /? to get more info. To flash the bios, just type in "AFUDOS A140PA20.ROM /B /P /N /X /C" where the "A140PA20.ROM" is the Bios filename you downloaded. I copied this out of the "A140_(NM10_ZBOX)_1005c" folder and just put it in the afudos folder. While you go through the wiki article, feel free to make a change or let me know if something doesn't work. Again, I did this from the top of my head so I'm sure that there's something minor wrong. Good Luck! - weiuweiu - 2010-09-12 15:08 Thank you so much! Now i cant even hear The fan ![]() A question, right now iam running dharma veta 1 xbmc live om à usb stick with aeon65 skin, but i feens à bit slow/laggy. Will a ssd disk make it feel faster? Kind regards - xobx - 2010-09-12 18:52 fantastic guide mate. This will help loads, I managed to get everything working with a ubuntu already running but would prefer to use xbmclive. Quick question - does wifi work out the box with xbmcfreak and if so how do you enter your wifi network and password? Might be simple but I've not used linux much without a gui. cheers, Robert |
