In a bid to get DTS-MA and True HD sound working via PCM I am about to have a go at this guide.

I would love to be able to partition the drive while I do this, into 1 x 300gb drive and 1 x 20gb drive. I want to store my Music library on the large partition and access it from XBMC when that is installed on the smaller one.

Is this possible?

Yeah you can partition your drive any way you like during the lucid mini install process. Just choose manual at the partitioning stage.

cheers

Thanks.

I have to say that the support and quick feedback I have been reading in this thread has been one of the main things that has made me choose this guide over some of the others.

Hopefully it will all go smoothly from here on.

Okay, I've set up 2 partitions. Both Ext4, one 20gb Primary, and one 300gb Logical.

Is that right?

sounds good its really up to you on how big you want your partitions I have Ubuntu Desktop installed on a 30GB partition 20GB should be fine

Hi,
I would setup partitions like this:

18gb partition set to /
2gb partition set to swap
300gb partition ext4 mount point set to /home

This way you can reinstall or update xbmc and retain your settings, skins, addons, library etc from the 300gb partition. Then just create a folder called music in your home/xbmc folder copy all your music to it.

cheers

Hmmm, back I go!

harryzimm - I am going to start again, and when it gets to the Partition section, I'll make sure I can follow it as you have recommended.

Okay, so I have just selected my 320gb disk to start partitioning, and I have made a new partition with it 18gb in size.

My next option is to set the "use as" value. Should this be left as ext4, or should I chose something else?

Just worked through the other 2 partitions the best I could and thought I'd post as photo of the screen to make sure it's spot on before I continue.

Yes that photo looks correct

Thanks, so when I come to install GRUB, I should type /dev/sdb1 right?

- harryzimm - 2010-07-15

yes

- Tyler Durden - 2010-07-15

Okay I have reached this section of the install,

Quote:sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-*

sudo shutdown -r now

sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.25-pkg1.run

The system rebooted after the second command, but on typing the third I am getting a "command not found" error.

*EDIT* I must have missed something as I went back a few steps and it now appears to be working.

Okay, I have found a difference. In my Alsamixer I do not have the same options.

Here is mine.
