Just like to say I now have a stable build using pin87 image running r161 crystal drivers on xbmc RC2 and I could'nt be happier. Performance vs OSX is night and day.

Thanks to all involved in the thread (goldmine) - think I will go watch some films now. No updates for a while I think !

Scratch that. I figured it out.

into the terminal, it keeps telling me that the resource is busy. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

/dev/disk2s1 is mounted, you can't dd onto a mounted disk. also I'm not quite sure you want to dd a DISK image onto a disk partition.

Thanks! I'm a noob still at this! Copypasta is great sometimes, but I didn't think about the commands I was telling the computer to run. What I'd like to do is to have it installed on the ATV drive and am kind of lost on this being a noob.

Are you running it on USB or did you install onto the ATV disk?

Having trouble with this m2ts 1080p file, (APTV, RC2, Crystal v174) all other 720 and below formats play fine.

media info - http://pastebin.com/uiPvAvGR

This one, a MKV in 1080p works fine.

Yes for now I am on usb. Will move over next year or when final is released.Should be fun
Shocked

I can't get either one to install on the USB flash drive for some reason. I'd like to get it installed onto the ATV HDD, but I'm too much of a noob to understand what the heck I'm doing right now, so I'm doing a little research on how to get it installed on there.

What is happening when you type the command ? I assume your doing this on a mac ?

Ok, retried it and it showed 3974103040 bytes transferred in 1817 secs.

So I hooked it up to the ATV, and it goes through booting. and then the last few lines show:

Waiting for root file system... ....
Check root= bootarg car/prec/cmdline
or missing modules, devices: Cat /proc/modules ls /dev/something I can't read off the pic I took
CRT! /dev/sdb3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

then it has a line about the unbuntu version and then is at a prompt.

I currently run RC2 in combination with R161 and noticed the following.
When I enable the Adjust display refresh rate to match video option, it does it works perfectly in 24hz... until I enable srt subtitles. Suddenly frames start to drop.

When using the same subtitles in a 60hz mode (Adjust display refresh rate to match video turned off), no dropped frames at all.

So my 24hz mkv works without dropped frames in 60hz mode with subtitles, in 24hz mode without subtitles, but not in 24hz mode WITH subtitles

Any clue?

Ok, so I installed (Sam's) on a USB drive and everything works, almost. I have no sound!

I am using HDMI, but even when I hooked up the TOSLINK, I still get no sound. What gives?

I see in the first post it says 'Remember to configure what codecs your receiver is compatible with.' and the receiver I have can do DTS, trueHD, AC3, and I set it the same as they were before (DTS/AC3)

Overall though, just going through everything and messing around, I must say it is definitely much nicer than the standard Mac OS ATV install. Much snappier and seems to perform much better....

I'm having trouble with navigation sounds. Mainly there are none. All other sounds work fine.

I followed this guide to install to the atv hard drive.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=86108

In a nutshell:

pin87's image
upped to RC2
default skin
got CrystalHD in mail and installed in atv
Reinstalled r156 driver

Using HMDI audio, (cable straight to tv)
audio output device is custom hwplug:0,3

There were no sounds, in video, music, or navigation before installing RC2, now everything works but navigation sounds. I have searched and only came up with this(creating .asoundrc for alsa)

http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=635716&postcount=1351

which just crashes xbmc when trying to play video. I couldn't find anything else in my searches, less that HDMI audio is a pain. Everything else is working great, good 1080p playback, I'm happy so I could live without nav sounds just wanted to know if I am missing something. Anyone shed some light on this? Thanks

Upgraded Nvidia driver - kkillebrew - 2010-12-13

Other than on sound over HDMI I can't think of a reason not to upgrade. Besides being more stable with 1080 sources, especially at the beginning of play, the upgraded driver reads EDID's correctly and now all my TV's display 1080p without problem.

Previously my LG 42" LCD would not display 1080 with the ATV but worked with other devices. The general consensus was a faulty tv EDID. Bur after hours of messing with modelines I gave up and typed "nvidia-installer --update" and all my problems disappeared. Even my new Sony Bravia HX800 now reports back that despite it's initial 58 - 62 hz refresh rate stated in EDID, that it will display 24hz and 1080/24p is now a validated mode.

I was never able to use HDMI sound reliably anyway as it is buggy when downmixing on certain sources. So unless you must have sound over HDMI, I would recommend upgrading.
