No as it degrades quality from an already degraded jpg format. I know only slightly but I prefer to leave all as jpg. Another Xbmc discussion seems to have discovered that depending on what poster file type you use xbmc sometimes downscales the image. Waiting on reply on the other thread. Folder.jpg seems to get resolution downscales to width of 512.

I just tried to install Aeon per the Linux instructions on at http://wiki.github.com/pix/aeon/linux-download-instructions

One problem I found is after you create /.xbmc/addons/skin.aeon and run the "git clone git://github.com/pix/aeon.git" it will create a directory /.xbmc/addons/skin.aeon/aeon and it will install all the files in there. On my XBMC install (xbmcfreak-10.08-svn32178-lucid1 on a Acer Aspire Revo) it would not detect the skin. I moved the contents up one level and it then picked it up.

Just incase anyone else has the same problem...

It's a wiki you can edit it if you want (And fix any spelling mistake you can find Rolleyes)

mark007 Wrote:Posted over on the more xbmc related forums regarding the low resize quality http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=78274

Seems very strange things are happening. When poster is renamed from folder.jpg to movie.tbn the resize quality of the poster is excellent, and further renames to folder.jpg shows excellent quality. Any possibility its an aeon quirk?

1) After reloading movie data just to be sure local folder.jpg was read. It was read and showed up blurry again of course. -> http://img824.imageshack.us/i/screenshot005p.png/
2) After renaming the file to movie.tbn and reloading data again, all looks really sharp and clear again. -> http://img191.imageshack.us/i/screenshot006z.png/
3) After renaming back to folder.jpg, its showing up as really sharp again (what the ....)..... -> http://img412.imageshack.us/i/screenshot007a.png/

Well after a discussion over at another xbmc thread regarding this difference between folder.jpg and movie.tbn, it seems aeon65 is using

cached and resized thumbnail of folder.jpg for both library and information view
and
cached / resized thumbnail for library, and full resolution movie.tbn for information view.

My question is, is it reasonable to ask for a feature request, that full resolution of any poster file be shown in information view, not just the movie.tbn. This would make the skin more consistent in the way it handles posters in the information view.

I'll create an aeon bug report for the above if its still felt to be fixable by you guys. I have renamed all posters to movie.tbn now (third time lucky Smile - had to rename to folder.jpg for http://github.com/pix/aeon/issues#issue/55)

------------------

So now that I'm concerned that aeon65 isn't show the original version of certain file types, I did a quick test on Tv Shows, and the main poster for the show. Below are my test results for one TV Show, Dexter. Strange results again on reload.

Two problems,

1) aeon65 doesn't seem to show load many file types in library view for tv shows (most concerning is folder.jpg for information dialog), and
2) it seems to be loading a cached version of the poster in the info field..... even when I completely remove all posters and reload. Leaving it hard to diagnose folder.jpg read problem. Editing of image might be required to really prove to yourself that folder.jpg file isn't being read from disk after reload in information area.

Type--------Library--------Information dialog
folder.jpg--------Yes--------No (unless already cached, dunno why cache is still there even after reloading).
<show>.tbn--------No--------No (unless already cached, dunno why cache is still there even after reloading).
<show>.jpg--------No--------No (unless already cached, dunno why cache is still there even after reloading).
poster.tbn--------No--------No (unless already cached, dunno why cache is still there even after reloading).
poster.jpg--------No--------No (unless already cached, ,dunno why cache is still there even after reloading).

Testing now in confluence, but can any of the aeon developers shed light on how much control it has over what files / data it can load for posters in library view, and in the information dialog while I try to get more detailed information for a bug report.

This has to do with how XBMC itself processes thumbnails. However, this is currently changing.
Here is the current process.

oh.... that probably explains it thanks. I'll have to wait until its more stable before I go creating bug reports Smile

hubfred Wrote:Hey guys,

is it possible to display the backdrop slideshow/single background in(side) the Videos section, too? Once a movie is in focus XBMC displays the respective fanart as usual but I have a black background when I navigate through the sub sections of Videos (e.g. DVDs, HD, Plugins, these are my "subfolders").

Plus, do you think it might be appropriate or helpful to extend the FAQ on Git by the information that the link between Trailers in the main menu to the Apple Trailers Lite Plugin only works after you have initially created a (even a very small) movie database? Before that I was told that "the Apple Plugin is not installed, please install it from ...." although it was installed already. It took me an hour to figure this out (using the plugin as a favourite worked right away, but I was eager to have the nice poster view) although it should have been clear right from the start, I know Smile.

Other than that the skin works nearly flawlessly. There are some other aspects but one annoying post at a time Smile

Thanks for the efforts so far. Great work!

I'm having a similar issue. the background of my video section suddenly appears black. i can't exactly recall, but i believe the background used to be the multiplex curtains. don't kno why it's not displaying. is there a way to fix this or have the mainscreen backdrops display when in the videos section?

Bug - PinkFlojd - 2010-08-04

I can't use my mouse to click the "progress bar" when playing videos. Can't use it to click any button. Though while in menu's I can use the mouse just fine Tongue

Also, when I start playing a video-file(shared from another computer through network, perhaps related? haven't tried playing local files yet) my screen goes blank and then shows the menu again before playing as should.

Flease post your bug report here with a screenshot of the problematic view: http://github.com/pix/aeon/issues

Mouse is NOT supported, Use it at your own risks.

Probably not Aeon related.

Thank you to everyone who worked on this! I got into XBMC because of the Aeon skin and now I can keep it!

They are not bugs they are skin behaviours Aeon pulling movie.tbn you could actually call it a skin hack

If you want to have Aeon pull the folder.jpg on the movie info screen its probably the easiest thing to change just look for the following in the DialogVideoInfo.xml

Code:
<control type="largeimage">
            <description>Cover image</description>
            <posx>0</posx>
            <posy>0</posy>
            <width>486</width>
            <height>720</height>
            <texture>$INFO[ListItem.path][b]movie.tbn[/b]</texture>
            <aspectratio>stretch</aspectratio>
            <fadetime>500</fadetime>
            <visible>!Skin.HasSetting(videotv)</visible>
        </control>

Change movie.tbn to folder.jpg thats all you need to do obviously your lose the movie.tbn being pulled unless you add a separate entry and more code

While your there look at the dimensions its using 486x720 like I said in the other thread skins are 720 and that's the size your seeing, cache your thumbs at a size larger than 720 and its going to look no different than pulling the movie.tbn and displaying it at 486x720, you need to change cache size if you ever plan on moving away from aeon as other skins use cached on info

Here's a comparison one cached at the largest available size the other movie.tbn being pulled the difference minimal

http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/3061/comparsison.jpg

I still don't understand why you want folder.jpg over movie.tbn they are exactly the same except for the extension movie.tbn can be seen in windows as an image with a simple reg change

Yes and it was the first issue reported to Github, I'll need to take a look at this one, someday Smile
