@lloydsmart - Thanks for the crash log, I will look at this some time today when I get some free time, at a glance it looks like it should be pretty simple to fix. In the meantime can you please send me the following:

* What soundcard are you using?
* How are your audio settings set?
* What are you trying to play? (eg, audio format, 2.0, ac3, etc....)
* Does this occur every time?

Thanks

- lloydsmart - 2011-04-30

  • Sound is via my Nvidia GT430, over HDMI
  • Audio settings are set with all passthrough options on and audio output device is plughw:0,9 (which is what worked on Dharma. I've disabled my onboard audio)
  • I've tried this with TrueHD 5.1, DTS 5.1, DTS-HD MA 5.1, Flac 5.1, DD 2.0, DD 5.1
  • Yes, this occurs every time.

If it helps, my GT430 is connected via HDMI to an Onkyo 705, which in turn is connected to a Panasonic TX-P50VT20.

The crash also happens if I set the output to hdmi, iec958, or default.

Thanks for looking into this!

Here is a preliminary Windows build of AE with EAC3/TrueHD bitstream support. Needless to say this is highly experimental and is mostly untested as I don't currently have a hardware setup in my office that can bitstream these formats.

Requirements:
  • Windows 7 (Vista may work, but there are no guarantees as it doesn't officially support these formats).
  • An ATI/AMD 5xxx or newer card, an Nvidia 4xx series or newer card, an Asus Xonar card or a newer Intel video chipset.
  • A receiver that supports these formats hooked up via HDMI.

HTPC with ATI 5450 (Windows7 64bit) to Pioneer 919 Receiver testet with the compiled Version from ArtVandelae

I can see on Audio- Subtitle settings DTS-HD HRA 5.1 but Output on Receiver is only DTS.
Tested with 2 mkv files and one file has 7.1 but on Audiosetting only 5.1.

TrueHD trailer crash XBMC. On Receiver only PLII Movie.

My English is bad. Sry

Thanks. Tried this quickly on Windows 7 64bit, Intel Core i3, HDMI to Denon AVR2310 receiver. Could not get it to bitstream DTS-MA - receiver still shows DTS track. TrueHD causes XBMC to crash. If you want logs etc let me know.

I should have clarified, the AE branch won't bitstream full DTS-HD yet, just the core stream. Can you post a debug log from the TrueHD trailer that crashed?

Your crash log would be appreciated as well.

Thanks, I think I see where the problem is.

Alright, let see if this build fixes the crashes with TrueHD streams.

Could you try it with Settings->Video->Playback->Sync Playback to Display turned off?

- Wanilton - 2011-05-01

Helo ArtVandelae,

DTS-HD work fine here, but Dolby true HD crash XBMC, my sync playback to display set off,
If it helps, my ATI Radeon HD 5450 (ok for hd audio) is connected via HDMI to an Onkyo 705 (ok for hd audio), which in turn is connected to a Optoma HD80, I use your version in Win7 64 bits.
Part of my log error in Dolby True HD

Alright, I've found and eliminated the crashing bug. I apparently broke something in the player core with my earlier changes so hopefully this fixes it.
