MutatedHero Wrote:I just got around to compile this since I've been looking forward to trying out DTS-HD and TrueHD. And also to help the progress by submitting the errors one might find.

After setting everything up and chosing DTS-HD cabable reciever and the correct HDMI output I tried to play a movie with DTS-HD sound. I got no sound and the picture stutters.

The following error showed up in the log http://pastebin.com/j1GXNZUm.

If I change to the DTS track in the same video it works flawlessly but as soon as I change back the sound disappears and the movie starts to stutter. I had the same issue on two of the DTS-HD movies I tried.

I'm running AMD Radeon 5570 with the newst drivers.

don't truncate logs, devs need the full thing.

Debug Log File: http://pastebin.ca/2083281

Problem: Movies with AC3/DTS work fine and i get 5.1 Audio. When i play a video with TrueHD/DTS-MA i get no audio and the video plays as if i was fast forwarding it.

Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC05
Video Card: ATI HD5450

Note: If i recall, ATI had limited support due to their awkward drivers and may or may not work, depending on the bitrate of the audio, correct?

I wonder whether gnif is still working on this or having a well deserved vacation. Haven't heard from him here more than a month. I hope AE will make it into Eden anyway.

do you have hd audio working outside of xbmc? if not it won't work in xbmc regardless.

That's a good question. What's the best/more reliable program to test with? VLC? Keep in mind i am running this setup off of ubuntu and not sure what programs outside of xbmc should/would/could support the HD Audio passthrough.

A well deserved break no doubt. I expect there will be flurry of activity when he returns.

you can test with these samples from this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2353070
i have no experience with ati but i imagine that .asoundrc likely won't work. you should be able to just replace the hdmitestN portion of the aplay command with your device to test.

Got sick of everything being for for nvidia so i ripped a card out of the other machine and am rebuilding the htpc with the gt240 card in it. I'll let you know how it goes.

just an fyi then. the gt240 doesn't officially support hd audio bitstreaming. truehd will most likely work fine but dts-hd will be hit or miss. you'd have to upgrade to a fermi based card to get both working for sure. that said, i wasn't able to get dts-hd to work even with a fermi based card and my vsx-1020. i tried with a gt430 and gt520 which other people have gotten to work fine. hopefully it's just a problem with my specific model and not pioneer in general.

The strange thing is that I've gotten it to work with the ATI card under windows with one of the pre-compiled releases.

It detects all the specs of the receiver just fine. I might go pick up a new video card tomorrow night and give it a shot. It would suck if things just didnt work with the pioneers considering they make some of the best receivers!

I tried the tests using aplay and all i got was static. Might just be because of the video card.

XBMC Is segfaulting when i change some of the audio output settings. I'll throw up the debug log later but not sure how much good it'll do since everyone seems to be on vacation Sad

There's a feature freeze for Eden as of now. I'm guessing HD Audio didn't make the cut Sad

No way, say it isn't SO! I've looked sooo forward to HD Audio for a year. What other major features could there be BESIDES HD Audio?

Don't get me wrong, I'm very appreciative of the XBMC developers. Fantastic software.

I am highly disappointed this couldn't get prepped for Eden launch... this to me seems to be a major draw back that prevents single system integration of XBMC without the use of external players.
