Vincent56 Wrote:how did you get the iso working on usb?

that weirds.. i replied to your message as well and got a message saying an admin had to approve it

to mount the iso use lili http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=89848 or unetbootin to export the iso onto a usb.
plug it in and boot.. press whatever key is needed to allow a 1 time boot and boot from usb then

iso works but i built my own one, thanks to him i got my xbmc patched and it works fine so far.

Only problem i have i the missing support for higher bitrate HD movies caused by the L4.1 limitation.

-> waiting for the next xvba version.

Bitrate has nothing to do with the profile. All Blu ray movies are encoded in 4.0 or 4.1, even 40Mbps ones.

for some reason the iso i put on the usb (through unetbootin) will not boot. i changed boot priority and everything, but i just get a blinking cursor on the upperleft of the screen and thats it. tried different ports but no succes. does anyone have a tip?

the board is an MSI E350IA=E45

hmm, no luck on my XPS15 either, so it must be the stick...

ok, i might be a complete noob but i did the following:
i opened the usb stick on my dell xps in vista and could open wubi.exe which made me install ubuntu on my vista installation. everything worked fine, but there was no xbmc.
what did i do wrong? im about to rewrite the iso to usb and try again...

another edit

i think it might be a problem with the usb stick.. it worked by putting the iso on a cd. unfortunately i dont have cd drive in my e350 system Tongue
will be continued

nemek Wrote:If some one is interested below is my custom xbmc-live ubuntu 10.10 x64 build (done using xbmc-live sdk). Its contains patched xbmc 10 compiled with vaapi enabled and all needed libs (ie libva, xvba-video etc) + latest catalyst 11.3 + mplayer-vaapi (for testing). Its confirmed to work with almost all hd movies ([email protected] / AP@L3 max - xvba limitation) on ati cards (probably uvd2 is required - ie hd 4xxx)
xbmc-10.0-live-amd.part1.rar
xbmc-10.0-live-amd.part2.rar
xbmc-10.0-live-amd.part3.rar
xbmc-10.0-live-amd.part4.rar

nemek, I registered to say "thank you" for making this ISO. I found it to be quite useful, and works well.

I did have some problems getting it installed, and just wanted to document the problems and solutions here for anyone else who might also be having problems.

Problem 1) LiLi didn't work for me on my USB stick or on my SD card. In each case LiLi seemed to finish without error, however when I tried to boot from either device I just got a grub> prompt. Perhaps I didn't do something correctly while using it, not sure.

Solution 1) Use unetbootin. I installed the latest unetbootin, and that worked the first time without a problem.

Problem 2) The installer was looking for a CD-ROM drive that wasn't there, rather than simply using the USB key.

Solution 2) Mount the USB key as a CD-ROM device and point to it:

I followed the directions from here:

Quote:When you get the screen with “Load CD-ROM driver from removable media?” press ALT-F2 to get a console and enter these commands:
Code:
mkdir /mnt/usb /mnt/iso
Code:
mount –t vfat /dev/<usb drive partition device file> /mnt/usb
Code:
mount –t iso9660 –o loop /mnt/usb/<iso file> /mnt/iso
Code:
ALT-F1 to return to installation dialog and answer as follows:
Load CD-ROM driver from removable media? <No>
Manually select CD-ROM module and device> <Yes>
Module needed for accessing the CD-ROM: none
Device file for accessing the CD-ROM: /dev/loop0
Hopefully the above will get you back on track.
Use the defaults for the rest of the installation. I changed the following below for my install...
Used 'full disk' for install WITHOUT lvm. I decided to not do LVM to save disk space and extra modules from loading. At the partitioning part, it will also complain about your thumb drive and ask if you want to use it. Do *NOT* use it or else you can't install it because it will overwrite the thumbdrive.

Problem 3) There was a mouse cursor "X" in the middle of the screen that wouldn't go away.

Solution 3) Add this in Section "Device" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code:
Option "HWCursor" "false"

Nice.... this thread made me decide to buy a AMD Fusion board.
Want to build a new HTPC.

- Galacticus - 2011-04-26

The audio drivers made me wish I bought Nvidia.

- Qroach - 2011-04-27

so I got a jetway AMD Fusion board, everything is great except the audio and crazy video stuttering when a video is used as a background.

Can anyone tell me how to get the audio working?

- magnetik - 2011-04-28

I see that Catalyst 11.4 has just been released.

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/04/amd-ati-release-catalyst-11-4-driver/

Wonder if it brings any enhancements out of the box?

I'm keen to eventually move from my current XS35 setup to a Zacate mobo/case/etc. so I can build more a XBMC/file server dual setup - since the Zacate boards offer much, much better SATA port counts than ION boards = more hard drives.

Been following the topic closely - keen to have Ubuntu with VAAPI playback PLUS audio out over HDMI (does this work yet?) - once that's all been proven to work well (which I get the impression it has) it will be time to start building the next HTPC Big Grin I know this can be done under Windows - but Windows ain't an option for me - totally over it now for all my PC's - Ubuntu/Linux all the way.. Wink

EDIT: shame, seems Audio over HDMI not possible yet:

Audio over HDMI, SPDIF, Analogue? On which of these three methods your audio stutter? On all Three of then?

New to the board, but had been lurking for a while. Based off a suggestion here, I purchased a Zacate board and couldn't be happier with it.

Just wanted to add my .02 cents:

Any questions, would be happy to answer any!

Hi,

Could someone please tell me if these are the steps to take to get everything working on linux (VAAPI and such)

1. install va-api stuff (3 libs [libva & libva-dev & xvba-video] from splitted-desktop.com)
2. install catalyst
3. confirm if everything is ok (run vainfo) - if its reporting an error its probably missing linkage
4. Patch XBMC
5. compile xbmc with va-api enabled OR use https://launchpad.net/~lars-opdenkamp/+archive/xbmc-pvr - but it can and i guess will make problems with already installed libv

With that modified iso, any easy way to enable the realtek ALC892 from my E350 board? It always says no sound device, even after installing the latest driver from realtek Sad
