wow thanks. the 16x9 view really looks amazing now. I have noticed one thing though. Im not sure if you did this on purpose or if it a bug, but there are no flags for the episodes in the 16x9 view.

Found the error, enabling Global Clock hides flags - fixed now...

- KiSUAN - 2010-12-19

Wow I forgot to report that one Blush

- logictester - 2010-12-19

would it be possible to add the next aired information on the fanart tv shows view? say opposite to the global clock? would be very cool
thanks

- fonzie - 2010-12-20

I was thinking the same thing as logictester, not sure if it would look right or not, which is why I didn't bring it up. But I suppose its worth testing out. Maybe with the Station logo in there somehow too?

- msderganc - 2010-12-20

I'm not sure if this is a bug or on purpose, but the home screen art is very slow - 5-15s - for those menu items that are referencing a folder. The single file items are normal speed.

Essentially, going from Music -> Movies -> TV Shows, sometimes the art never changes, or takes a long time to catch up. I've noticed that Music is by far the fastest of the three (<5s), but single image backgrounds on my custom menu items are instant switches.

This is Win7 64bit + XBMC 10.0 Release.

It happens with both Night and Night.Purity, but not with Confluence.

Disregard, looks like a harddrive was starting to go. Luckily I caught it in time and cloned it beforehand!

Do you happen to use the dds fanart tweak as mentioned here?
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=59115

Ever since setting that on a few months ago image display is always instant regardless of skin. I can hold the Up arrow down in Night to continuously scroll though the menu and images display as fast as the scrolling moves.

May or may not be your fix, but it definitely does speed up image processing all around in XBMC.

- KiSUAN - 2010-12-21

I must say Rygrath that is not really a fix for the skin or the texture, they are quite all right, that's a fix for your RIG (that's not very capable) with a huge take on quality, thats what happens when you have an old machine or a crapy ION or atom in a HTPC. But if you have no choice (get a better RIG) there's nothing else to. Maybe it would be a better "fix" resizing the backgrounds to the res your display has, so the CPU has less work to do.

- Rygrath - 2010-12-21

Oh I got it running on a beefy rig. The loss in quality isn't really noticeable unless you compare the images back to back for a good length of time. Even on a 1080p screen I don't notice it. What I do notice is having images accelerated by the GPU instead of the CPU. Even with a quad core cpu with 8gigs of ram (doubles as a gaming computer) the speed difference is highly noticeable and the image loss not so much Smile

But this is the wrong place to discuss such things, I just thought it was something he could look at, and if I'm wrong apologies Smile

- KiSUAN - 2010-12-21

Better leave it by this, good luck.

- Rygrath - 2010-12-21

Well I just didn't want to get technical for a "suggestion" post. I agree with you on all points you make. Except my rig. It was upgraded not to long ago to this

Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz 8MB L3 Cache
ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel X25-M 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
GeForce GTX 460 1GB 256-bit GDDR5

Overkill for a HTPC, probably. But it does run Crysis Laugh. It's watercooled so it's pretty quiet, minus the vid card fan.

It used to be a Athlon X2 5400+ running at 2.8Ghz and a GeForce 8600GTS. For XBMC's purposes the biggest speed increase came from the SSD. Thinking about it now I had dds turned on when it was running from a 3.5" hard disk. And I haven't thought about it since. With the new SSD drive I probably should do a complete reinstall with dds fanart off. Since I just migrated everything over to the new build.

I work with hardware on a daily basis myself and have built many types of rigs. From silent no fan HTPC's to full blown loud gaming rigs with flashy lights (some people have no taste) and servers (used to work in the IT department myself). And I did manually run the nvcompress to use DTX5 compression on the entire thumbnails folder to keep the image loss to a minimum.

On other pc's around the house with no SSDs I'll keep the dds on. When it comes right down to it, image display speeds are mostly due to read speeds of the drive they are cached on. CPUs with large caches don't hurt, but them mechanical hard drives (even Raptors) are just too slow for smooth display experience.

Thanks for this discussion KiSUAN. Made me think about a few things about my setup and that I should have remembered all about turning dds off to see how it'd work now with the SSD.

- KiSUAN - 2010-12-21

I edited my post before you posted, sorry, was thinking you might be one of those that lurk in the hard section and really don't have much idea, so I didn't want to get in to a pointless discussion.

Just one thing, if you ever have BSODs in that machine or some day you wake up and suddenly 2G or 4G doesn't appear anymore, 80% chances its the damn freaking mother, that Asus are like the plague, have a bunch of them in RMA just with a ram slot not working or with huge stability problems. Just a heads up.

- Rygrath - 2010-12-21

No worries, understandable.
Thanks for the heads up. Usually stick with Gigabyte and MSI in my builds since I just have good luck with them (haven't had one fail on me in many years) and thought for this one I'd try Asus. Good thing I got the extended warranty on it.

I was considering doing a whole silent HTPC system with a ION or something. Maybe for a bedroom pc where something small is needed. But they just lack bandwidth power for my needs and the living room is huge and ambient noise isn't something I'm worried about.

Anyways sorry to derail mcborzu's Night thread.. we now continue with your original program.

I always do, KiSUAN is pretty much in charge of flags...
