guys use XBMC remote if you want to see shoutcasts - craig198 - 2010-11-06

not to knock the creators here. you guys are awesome. But just to let you know that XBMC remote will show you shoutcast names which is what I use the most.

I've been asking for Shoutcast support for months. It was supposedly put in one of the svn's but I have no idea how to compile that stuff. Why it hasn't been included in an official release I don't know. I just don't think the developers are that interested because they don't use it personally. Like you said, this "Official" remote is awesome, just lacking Shoutcast support. Thanks for the info!

try saving your favorite shoutcast stations as .pls files in a folder. then browse to it using folder view on the remote. i've saved my top 20 and it plays them from the remote, tho the buffering time produces an error.

Will look again into this but last time I've checked XBMC only gave us IDs and no names for Shoutcast streams. Do you have a link to the remote that does this correctly?

looks like this is all in vain now anyway because of aol buying out shoutcast.

but it was xbmc remote from the android market.

What are you smoking re AOL bought out shoutcast? Shoutcast has been part of AOL since the day when they bought out Nullsoft which was MANY years ago.. in addition shoutcast is a standard not a product per se so it cannot be bought out anymore than gnutella was able to be bought out back then. You may be referring to the 2010 redesign of the site which forces the use of a toolbar and its aol bullshit to access the shoutcast.com directory of stations etc..

That said, there is *no* reason to be using XBMC remote to stream shoutcast stations on android when there is a winamp for android that plays them beautifully.. playing shoutcast at home is one thing, playing it by streaming it to your xbmc box at home then restreaming to your phone? that seems... both silly and wasteful.

craig198, while it's true that Shoutcast plugin support has been disabled by the fine folks at AOL, XBMC is still able to play Shoutcast streams. I have my streams saved as *.pls files on my HTPC and they play fine using XBMC. I would love to see this remote recognize these files and let me select them. When I navigate to them the remote recognizes them as a folder and I get an error when i select play folder. Freezy, "XBMC remote control" by Beungoud from the Android Market does recognize these files and allows me to play them. ID and Shoutcast names is not that important but playing these *.pls files would be great. Also is m3u and Playlist support possible? Using the Night skin I am able to select sub menu Playlist under Music to play these. That would be a nice addition to this already fantastic remote!
