To do this put all the games .lnk files into the same folder and configure your launcher as described into the related WIKI page : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=File_shortcuts

When doing it this way, what do I pick for the launcher application?

will do thanks

What you want. The selected application is not take into account at all. The created launcher only start the .lnk shortcut.

just create a blank text file and rename it as a ".exe". Launcher will run it and then run your game shortcut. when the blank ".exe" is run it will do nothing then the game will launch as required.

Hey Angel,

I've been fooling around some more with ALA and emulators and I'm still doing a lot of manual work. I have some suggestions for making it better. Maybe they seem stupid, but just from the top of my head :

- Fanart. When automatically scraping for fanart, you wil always scrape the first fanart of a game available. On the website, this is always the title screen of a game. For the fanart, I would like to see an in-game screenshot. So now I use the fanart I get from emumovies and link them manually in ALA to the game. I don't know if this is possible, but perhaps something could be build in to download the second or third fanart picture the scraper finds online, instead of always the first?
- Boxart. Ok, so if you have a rom collection like the NO-Intro collection, you will notice the filename of the rom is build like this : gamename_(USA).rom, gamename_(EU).rom. Now, when you check the boxscans available on gamefaqs.com you'll notice that most of the time the boxscans for all areas of a game are available, I mean, the USA versions, the european version and the japanese version. However, the scraper does not take this into account. So if you are a freak like me, and you want to have the correct boxscan added to your rom image, you have to do it manually. Maybe there is an option to enhance the boxscan scraping to take the (US),(EU) and (JAPAN) in to account when scraping, so the correct boxes are added to the file. Don't know is this is possible? i'm doing this manually, and although I like it, it takes ages and I have very little free time ;-)
- When you have added a complete collection of an emulator into ALA, it is not possible anymore to do any automatic scraping. Let's say you have imported a game gear collection and once it is imported you notice you don't like the descriptions. You can not simply change the scraper of the description and run the import again, to overwrite the already available description. The only option is to do it manually, or to completely remove the EMU and add it all over again. Maybe this could be made a bit better?

Anyway, as always, just some suggestions. I love ALA and use it every day...

Cheers,
Grave

I have created launcher with Advanced Launcher which executes a script .sh.
This script is working ok if launched from inside Advanced Launcher, if i click on script and select add to favourites it creates the shortcut in favourites but it will not execute (it does nothing).

Any clue, why?

You can select the "Semi-Automatic" value for the "Import during scan" option into the fanart scrapper settings, so you will have the possibility the select exactly the fanart you want during the import. Concerning Emumovies it is not possible to individually download fanarts from this web site. BTW, if you want to automatically use group of fanarts present on your hard drive you have two possibilities :
 • If fanarts are into a folder different than the thumbs, images named with the same filename as the roms will be automatically recognized and linked into advanced launcher (just select the "none" value for the "Import during scan" option into the fanart scrapper settings).
 • If fanarts are into the same folder than the thumbs, images named with the same filename as the roms and with the _fanat suffix (like gamefilename_fanart.jpg) will be automatically recognized and linked into advanced launcher (here again you will have to select the "none" value for the "Import during scan" option into the fanart scrapper settings).

Advanced Launcher is an application launcher, not a games manager. I do not see the interest to have US, EU or JP version of the same game on a system. Are you really going to play a those 3 different versions? BTW, if you want to differentiate US, EU and JP version you can do is to create 3 different folders (one for US, one for EU and one for JP games) and create 3 related scrappers (one for US, one for EU and one for JP games). Then, during import select the related region value for the "Thumb Region" option into the thumb scrapper settings. Advantage of this method :
 • You could have different scrappers for different machine : Genesis (US) vs. Megadrive (EU).
 • You will not have duplicate games for the same launcher.
 • You will not have different cover sizes for the same launcher. SNES (wide covers) vs. Super Famicon (tall covers)

Go into "Edit Launcher" then select "Clear Items List". If you already have made a complete import before, that's mean that the corresponding thumbs and fanarts are already been dowloaded. So go into "Add-on Setting", select the "none" value for the "Import during scan" option for both thumd and fanart scrappers. Then select the desired "Scraper Source" for "Data & Infos" scraper and start another scan.

Some version of XBMC with certain skins did not create correctly favorites. Unfortunately, I do not have any control on the favorite creation process to fix thizs by myself from advanced launcher. This bugs has already been reported to XBMC developers : http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/11380

BTW, there is a method to manually fix this. You will have to edit your "favourites.xml" file into .xbmc/userdata/ directory. If the favorite look like this :
Code:
<favourite name="Mario Kart: Double Dash!!" thumb="/media/GWENAEL/Emulation/gamecube/covers/MarioKartGC.jpg">[b]RunXBE[/b]("plugin://plugin.program.advanced.launcher/?b5790c05caa694a04bfe4234030ddd3b/1234b5b9b2790a7eea0213f0055e7580")</favourite>
or like this :
Code:
<favourite name="Mario Kart: Double Dash!!" thumb="/media/GWENAEL/Emulation/gamecube/covers/MarioKartGC.jpg">[b]PlayMedia[/b]("plugin://plugin.program.advanced.launcher/?b5790c05caa694a04bfe4234030ddd3b/1234b5b9b2790a7eea0213f0055e7580")</favourite>
change it like this :
Code:
<favourite name="Mario Kart: Double Dash!!" thumb="/media/GWENAEL/Emulation/gamecube/covers/MarioKartGC.jpg">[b]RunPlugin[/b]("plugin://plugin.program.advanced.launcher/?b5790c05caa694a04bfe4234030ddd3b/1234b5b9b2790a7eea0213f0055e7580")</favourite>
and it may solve the problem.

You have some very good points. I think I will try and work a bit with the 'semi-automatic' options of ALA. I haven't done this. It will still be a lot of work I think, but it is worth a try.
I wasn't aware of the 'clear items list' either. I will try this as well.
I'm not planning on playing all the different versions of a game, you are right. I just want to create the ultimate complete collections in XBMC. I know, I know, it sounds crazy ...

Thank you for your time.

I think your problem is related to your version of XBMC or to the skin version you are using. Oo

- bakito - 2011-08-06

well i don't change anything ( same skin same xbmc...) maybe I tweak some options....well...I'll see...
thanks for your quick answer!!

Advanced launcher only store the game infos and send them to XBMC. The skin display the infos (or not) to the screen. So, that's why I think it's related to the skin or XBMC which have an activated option to display (or not) the game infos (aka movie or TV show episode plot).Nod
