RE: [RELEASE] Advanced Launcher - Application, Emulator and ROMs Launcher Addon for XBMC - fluentdesigns - 2012-04-25 03:05

Finally started poking around and using this launcher with MQ3 lastnight. Im trying to setup angry birds. I have the game launching but my problem is getting the artwork to download from gamesdb. When I have it look for a thumbnail or fanart it says there is nothing available. Anyone having an issue with this scraper?

Scraping Angry Birds game using TheGameDB scraper is working perfectly :

Are you sure you have setup the info, thumbs and fanart scrapers correctly?

For the 3 content scrapers, "Collecting method" must be set to "Scrapers", "Import mode" must be set to "Automatic" or "Semi-automatic" and of course the source must be set to "TheGameDB". You must also take care that the platform you have defined to your "Angry Bird" game is IBM PC Compatible (I'm supposing that you are using the Windows version).

First off, I'd like to say thank you for such an amazing plugin! The amount of work you've done on this has been really great.

So, I've been reorganizing my games library to more closely match my movies/music/tv shows. I'm currently using the following folder structure:

games
- <console>
---- <game folder>
-------- rom.bin
-------- fanart.jpg
-------- cover.jpg

This structure feels much more in tune with how xbmc organizes files. My question is, is it possible to use the %rompath% variable outside of the args path?
Advanced Launcher already support this kind structure. Advanced Launcher have a recursive scan option that allows to scan into subfolders and allows to automatically import/export/scrap thumbs and fanarts files that are located into the same folder of the game. The only difference with the way you do it, is that the thumb and fanart image must be named rom_thumb.jpg and rom_fanart.jpg, like this :

Code:
games
- <console>
---- <game folder>
-------- rom.bin
-------- rom_fanart.jpg
-------- rom_thumb.jpg
-------- <game2 subfolder>
------------ rom2.bin
------------ rom2_fanart.jpg
------------ rom2_thumb.jpg
---- <game3 folder>
-------- rom3.bin
-------- rom3_fanart.jpg
-------- rom3_thumb.jpg
-------- etc..

(2012-04-24 19:15)bzim Wrote:  Ideally, I would like to be able to specify %rompath% within the fanart and thumb nodes in launchers.xml (and eventually maybe even a <trailer> node :-) ). Here is an example:

Code:
<rom>
    ...
    <filename>/media/games/snes/Zelda/zelda.bin</filename>
    <fanart>%rompath%fanart.jpg</fanart>
    <thumb>%rompath%cover.jpg</thumb>
    ...
</rom>

This would ultimately result in fanart being found at /media/games/snes/Zelda/fanart.jpg, and thumb at /media/games/snes/Zelda/cover.jpg.

Is this possible in any way?
First, that's not a good idea to manually edit the launchers.xml file. Advanced Launcher already support import/export files that are located into the same folder than the item file, so the use of the %rompath% value into the launchers.xml file is useless.

Also, Advanced launcher support trailers since version 1.8.0 : http://www.gwenael.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=253

Great! Thanks for the info on the naming conventions (I must have missed that somewhere). I will be sure to use that from now on.

As for the trailer support, is it possible to keep the trailer along with the thumb and fanart? for example:

Code:
games
- <console>
---- <game folder>
-------- rom.bin
-------- rom_fanart.jpg
-------- rom_thumb.jpg
-------- rom_trailer.mp4

Also, can trailers be mkv, or does the filetype have to be mp4?

Files must have mp4 extension and must be named rom.mp4.

Odd thing is it seems to be working today. The other day it was not though. I didnt change a thing, just tried again. Thanks for the help

Simply magnificent, Advanced launcher has come so far from when you first started it Angelscry Big Grin.

So I was reading the pages, is there a clearcut method to adding trailers to xperience1080 or mq3 ? I have literally almost everything else I could possibly want, barring a view that shows the game discs/back of boxes Smile

If not, I am content to see what develops, otherwise everything is working great! thank you

Just wanted to throw out a big thank you for creating the Advanced Launcher , I actually only searched for some kind of rom launcher for my multiple system gaming station , but thanks to you I also stumbled over XBMC which has improved my whole media expierience a lot.

What's the best scrapper site for SNES, GENESIS, MASTER SYSTEM, and N64?

I scrapped my SNES collection off mobygames and most of the artwork is missing.. and alot of the files were scrapped in correctly. I would hate to go in and manualy scrap every single individual one.. is there another option I could do?

Also, my file names for SNES are pretty organized. Just the "Title name (U).smc", etc

I don't know. They are not all 100% complete. They propose all different game descriptions, different covers qualities and different fanarts and/or screenshots. They are all complementary. No better, no worth. I can suggest you this combo :
  • For info : AllGame
  • For thumb : GameFAQs
  • For fanart : TheGameDB
But the result will never be perfect.

It is unrealistic to think that you will be able to automatically scrap all your games collection content, into one shot, with 100% accuracy. Best way is to use the semi-automatic mode. Longer than the automatic mode, faster than the manual mode... but the most accurate.

And...?
  • If you want to know if Advanced Launcher will be able to recognize the title of the game with an "(U)" string on it... yes. Advanced Launcher can bypass this information when scraping game infos. You can also indicate into the Advanced Launcher setting to keep with information into the game title.
  • If you want covers to be specifically linked to the country release you must use MobyGame as thumb scraper and indicate a preferred country cover. Only this scraper support country release info of games covers.

Thanks for the in depth reply! Just the info I needed.

Another question..

Is the poster size for viewtypes relative to the skin in files or is there a way to change it in advanced launcher? Reason why I ask is because aeon mq3 makes my snes artwork poster size instead of landscape.

Would love to set this up on my Win7 xbmc. Does anyone have an good wireless joystick recommendations? Are the cheapo ones on ebay good enough? Thanks!

The display is only managed by skins but not all the skins display correctly all the Advanced Launcher information (data, thumbs, fanart). So you will have to ask Aeon MQ3 skinners to add this view.

I'm not sure what you'd consider "cheap", but i've been using a xbox 360 wireless controller with the MS receiver, and it works fantastically...costs about $50 for both the controller and the receiver put together:

Scripts
Sysinternals PsTools

The first one is for steam games but won't group them, they'll all be on the root menu:

[...........] (Condensed)

Good luck and reply here if you have any issues.

First I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, and running XBMC Eden.

I've been playing with this to attempt to get steam apps to launch through XBMC with a batch file. So far I've been unable to get these scripts to work in anyway. At first I thought, maybe I'm just doing something wrong with the scripts, but after playing with other options I haven't been able to launch -anything- through steam with a batch file.

Just making a batch file to attempt to launch a steam game doesn't work either. I'll be posting on the steam forums for assistance too, but figured I'd ask if anyone else had experience with it here. I've attempted the following methods of launching a steam game, all of which just give an error and the batch file does nothing. This leads me to believe this is something wrong completely outside of XBMC.

Code:
start steam://run/48000

start steam://rungameid/48000

start "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 48000

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
