tablet suggestion - scott_fx - 2010-12-02

I have a projector setup and a hidden media rack in a different room. After seeing the awesome android remote app I was sold on the idea of having a dedicated tablet to control my system. the tablet's primary function will be to control my media system but i may use it for some simple web browsing from time to time.

i've narrowed down my search to two tablets. the APAD IMX515 or the Apad M1001

APAD IMX515 $209.99
8"
andriod 2.2
flash 10.1
800mhz
512MB DDR2 Ram
no multi touch

Apad M1001 $175.00
10"
andriod 2.1
flash 9
720mhz
256MB RAM
multi-touch

i like the idea of the 10" and mult-touch but the out-dated os, slower proc and memory raises a flag for me.

considering the pros and cons of those two tablets, any suggestions on which would be a better choice for the xbmc remote app? would i be sorry if i got the slower 10" with the out of date os?

t.i.a.
scott

It works really well with only a few quirks. If I had to do it again, i'd hold out for a unit with a capacitive touch screen though.

How is the Remote App performing at that high of a resolution?

I put a generic tablet from pandawill.com which is the gtab g10. the xbmc app works great on the tablet and I can do everything from it like I was on my android phone.

good to hear... please try to make something that will scale for multiple sizes since everyone is making different/multiple sizes... 5", 7", 8", 10", etc

thx for the great app!

Great to hear from other tablet xbmc remote users. i have a funny glitch where it forces the tablet in to be upside down in the now playing and tv shows section of the app. For now im happy to just keep using the tablet upside down. its a apad FR-809 i beleive. Smile

same here. turns the app upside down. I have a gpad G10 tablet.

it looks great on the larger screens

Just a comparison for tablet resoultions that i just thought was interesting. the apad i got has a resolution of 800x600, the evo has a resolution for 480x800 and the creative 10inch tablet features a 1024x600. i my self dont care bout the picutre resolution when im using it as a remote. besides it looks pritty clean anyways. just wish that the remote control interface scaled effectivly Smile

I love the android app on my phone. Its perfectly proportional for the 4inch screen. However on my 7inch nook color I feel the icons are too small and other objects aren't sized optimally leaving too much unused space. Here are a couple crude pictures to demonstrate.

The app looks amazing with my g tablet. Specially the tv series with the banners. To bad the movies don't look like that. It also forces me to use it in vertical, but its awesome. The only problem is that I can't download seasons posters, but I think that is reported as general issue. I think...
Btw, does anyone know if there are plans to make the db accessible offline? That would be great to have on my tablet or Desire and check it even my media player is offline.
