- BEKO86 - 2010-12-14 Yep on board sound is a must. I will update this thread once it is delivered and also how I am getting on. Worst case scenario it isnt suitable and I go out and buy a revo. Still 4 bay server for £100 will still be worth it! - Xeijin - 2010-12-15 BEKO86 Wrote:Yep on board sound is a must. Would appreciate that, thanks! Also let us know if there are any space/heat issues, looks like it might be a tight fit! - BEKO86 - 2010-12-16 Hey poofyhairguy you just helped me without me having to ask.... Quote:I am a Harmony nut, so I can help you. By far the best IR receivers for Harmonies and XBMC Live are found on ebay: Thanks a lot! - BEKO86 - 2010-12-18 I have just ordered the Zotac GeForce GT 210, slightly cheaper, the way deliveries are over here at the moment it will probably arrive after xmas. Also ordered a HP IR reciever which will also probably take an age to arrive. On a plus point the Microserver has arrived and initial impressions are good, not really much point getting started until the graphics card arrives. Ive taken some pics will upload tomorrow if i get chance. I am going to stick with 1GB RAM for now to see how it copes. - BEKO86 - 2010-12-21 Still not had time to upload some pics, my laptop died. I've had to strip it back clean the fan (HP6735s) and while I was there cleaned the processor and applied some silver thermal paste. So as Vista had thrown a wobbler I restored the laptop but then decided thats a good time to swap over to Ubuntu, been meaning to do it for ages. Glad I did its Awesome! As I used to use RSS feeds with Utorrent I need to figure that out next. Another reason for installing Ubuntu is so I can install XBMC and have a play around while I am waiting for my graphics card for the Microserver. - poofyhairguy - 2010-12-21 Watch the temps for your system- you don't want to kill your HDs with that GPU heat. If you have to replace the case fan with an Antec Tri-Cool fan and leave that sucker on high. A loud computer is better than a dead computer... - maxinc - 2010-12-21 I just installed one of these servers today, well windows server 2008 and all but interesting to note a couple of things: 1. The PSU has an additional fan, which is small and could potentially become noisy with time. 2. There is an available SATA port inside (in addition to the 4 drives), in case you want to hook-up an SSD in the CD-ROM bay with some adapters. You may need a sata cable with a 90 degree connector. Other that I feel like I should order one of these for myself. I'm not sure what to use it for yet, but this is a lot of server certified hardware for £100. Build quality is excellent. - MikeBuzz - 2010-12-23 have just installed a GT220 in my microserver its running windows 7 64bit with XBMC on top, tested with the standard HD file that comes with win7 and the cpu sat at 22%, will download some mkv's and test those next - maxinc - 2010-12-23 Couldn't help myself and ordered one of these as well to use it as a energy saving multipurpose home server for downloads, emails and family document sharing etc. - wookie025 - 2010-12-23 MikeBuzz Wrote:have just installed a GT220 in my microserver Is the GT220 low profile? can you put up a link to it please? How much RAM have you put in? Can you let me know how you get on with XBMC and play back through the server? i'm a noob to all this but i'm planning to do something like your set up, have XBMC running on top so I can watch it through the TV and over the network. - MikeBuzz - 2010-12-23 wookie025 Wrote:Is the GT220 low profile? Yes the GT220 is the low profile version, the fan is keeping it nice and cool, and the noise is minimal i have 3gb ram installed at the moment, this should be plenty i think.. this is the first time i have installed xmbc so just finding my way round it, will be installing sickbeard, sabnzbd+ and couchpotato once i decide windows or linux.... very happy with the play back so far and the server is ideal for me as a all in one solution - poofyhairguy - 2010-12-23 MikeBuzz Wrote: Temps look good. - wookie025 - 2010-12-23 what GT220 is it? http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=476705&CatId=2696 http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=404223&CatId=2696 and what pci slot did u put it in? thanks in advance. - poofyhairguy - 2010-12-23 wookie025 Wrote:what GT220 is it? Of those two only the Asus is low profile. - MikeBuzz - 2010-12-24 wookie025 Wrote:what GT220 is it? Mine is a unbranded card, but much like the asus, its in the 16x slot |
