The 2 minute wait time to play a 300mb avi file is just too much! I have the feeling that perhaps the whole file is copying over the network before playback begins - it certainly is taking long enough before play to start for that to be the case. - davilla - 2011-06-22 Some xbmc.log's would be nice to see (remember to turn on debug) so we can see what the slowdown is all about. We don't see it. - robjg63 - 2011-06-22 OK - will try and work out how to turn debug on. In the meantime this is what I found (by the way - mp4 files play for me now - they wouldnt at all under the old version (PRE-10.0)) File size type time before play starts 175mb avi 2:46 (thats minuteseconds) 380mb avi 3:10 542 mp4 3.20 8mb mp4 0:04 - robjg63 - 2011-06-22 Well I dont know what to think now. I feel embarrassed to say the least. I installed the latest version last night as reported. The files were taking the sort of times I reported above to play - a really really long time. The times in the earlier post were done within the last hour. I have rebooted the box a couple of times since installing the latest xbmc - they were still taking the sort of times reported above to play. I had a peak in the log file and realized that there was an option under XBMC to turn debug on in there (though I see now that it appears to just display some extra info). Anyway - with screen debug on I went back into my folders and tried playing some files. They are coming up in 10 to 20 seconds - amazing!- retried some of the files I used as timing samples as well and they were also 10 to 20 seconds. I have checked my wifi network - all seems well - nothing changed there. I rebooted the apple tv2 and tried some more files - again 10-20 seconds. I am very puzzled now.... Is it at all possible that turning on debug to the screen could have reset anything? - 400lb Gorilla - 2011-06-22 davilla Wrote:Some xbmc.log's would be nice to see (remember to turn on debug) so we can see what the slowdown is all about. We don't see it. I was experiencing major slowdowns in menu performance and loading images/fanart (6-9 seconds) until I downgraded to 10.0.7. I am running an AppleTV2 with 4.1.1. http://pastebin.com/5sajXK91 is a log file from when I was running 10.0.8. The one thing I noticed was all the lines: "DEBUG: Error: Requested setting (pvrmanager.enabled) was not found. It must be case-sensitive" These errors are happening multiple times and are followed by "DEBUG: Previous line repeats <n> times." where n could be anywhere from 1 to 500+ times. Is something hammering the system and eating up cpu cycles? Slowdown - Spider - 2011-06-22 Got also an enormous slowdown! On _4.2.1_8C154 and on _4.3_8F305! When scrolling in the menu the CPU goes to 99% when playing 720p file it drops to 66 - 71% Here is the log hope it helps http://pastebin.com/zCyvsvgt - piko72 - 2011-06-22 Is it possible to have a link of how to downgrade, thanks.. - Ger Teunis - 2011-06-22 Did anyone of you guys report this in the bugtracker? The slowdown I mean? I think it's a serious flaw in the current release version and should be fixed. - junkiepilot - 2011-06-22 piko72 Wrote:Is it possible to have a link of how to downgrade, thanks.. ssh to the atv2 then run the following commands... wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-7_iphoneos-arm.deb dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-7_iphoneos-arm.deb rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_10.0-7_iphoneos-arm.deb - piko72 - 2011-06-22 Thank you very much junkiepilot !! Will try it after work !! :-) It work perfectly - yabbiman - 2011-06-22 I just wonder why this version is called a "release". Appreciate all efforts and time the Devs put in this but this is hardly what you'd call a release version IMHO - Ned Scott - 2011-06-22 yabbiman Wrote:I just wonder why this version is called a "release". Appreciate all efforts and time the Devs put in this but this is hardly what you'd call a release version IMHO because it's compiled into a binary? These are pre-releases (pre-Eden), call them betas or alphas if you want. They are not final releases in any sense. We'll be waiting a lot longer for one of those. Till then we have these "slightly-more-stable-than-a-typical-nightly" releases. - yabbiman - 2011-06-22 Thanks Ned, that explains! |
