Strange how different people have different priorities.

I don't care about the audio channels as I just pass the AC3 through to my receiver. Don't ever use subtitles. Don't mind once in a blue moon plugging my macbook pro into the AppleTV to boot it when the power goes out (almost never happens).

XBMC for ATV2 has been a great experience so far!!

So, based on three non-issues you call it a "poor experience" ? Great.

Please try to grasp that people are different, have different equipment and thus different needs.

I, for one, do not have a surround receiver, but a regular old NAD stereo amp. As such, the downmix issue is a dealbreaker for me since 90% of my movies are encoded in surround. Watching a movie with all the speech in the right speaker, and weird background noises in the left, is not a pleasant experience.

While I agree that subs and tethered jailbreak (not really a XBMC issue..) are non-issues, people feel differently about these things based on their personal preference. What's not an issue for you, may be a dealbreaker for someone else.

I have faith that the XBMC team will eventually fix most issues, so I am waiting patiently as I've used and loved XBMC for years, and will continue to do so, be it on ATV2 or a less elegant HTPC solution.

Audio channels all screwed up during stereo down-mix is a huge issues makes watching movies poor.

Subtitles is another huge issue. Makes all the foreign films uslessless

"poor-experience" is quite an overstatement IMO.

The release itself is in it's infancy and for the most part functional. If anyone remembers how slow going the original XBMC for xboxv1 development was, this is LIGHTYEARS ahead.

I'm actually rather impressed that a 2nd update has been pushed already.

If the audio channels are such a big deal for you, and this is the only viewing option you have ATM; just physically swap the wires of the speakers on the back of your receiver. VOILA, you got a 100% temp fix. Granted, you shouldn't HAVE to do that - but if it makes your poor experience turn into a great experience. Why not.

This is the issue:
"incorrect downmixing of audio - front channels downmixed to right stereo channel, rear channels downmixed to left stereo channel"

Your "solution" results in this:
"incorrect downmixing of audio - front channels downmixed to left stereo channel, rear channels downmixed to right stereo channel"

I'm not the one who said "poor experience", by the way. I simply had the same problem with mixdown as that poster and was somewhat surprised by the people downplaying the issue because it wasn't a problem for them.

You all are one post away from a lock

The biggest issues for me are no subtitles (I watch a lot of anime) and a tethered jailbreak has been a total pain here in Australia with so many power outs lately.

We have a lot of power outages here also.
Thats why I use a APC battery back-up.

Just installed XBMC yesterday, very nice to see a port for Apple TV 2 - THANKS TEAM!!

For me, everything works so far - including scrapping Movies and TV-Series. I didn´t even need to turn anything (thumbnails, according to FAQ) off while doing this.

^ maybe could prove this, so that it could be taken out of the "non-working" list.

I also need to get a very responsible skin, then everything would be perfect for me.

Thanks again XBMC-Team, you are doing a great job!

Should Video_TS playback not currently working be added to the Playback, video: Section? This is already on the devs long todo list.

For the record subtitles work fine for me.

I dont have issues, i just wanted to say thank you XBMC team.
Running XBMC on an aTV2, installed PM HD Skin (because i know it since ages and dont want to use another one), disabled animations and it works very smooth.
1080p/720p works fine, so probs with XviD aswell. Again: THANK YOU Big Grin

For those who would like a untethered jailbreak check out Greenpois0n RC5 - 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak, from what i understand it shuld work with Apple TV 4.2.1. Sadly i don´t own one so i can´t test it, but you can find more information here: http://www.jailbreakmatrix.com/

It does not. Greenpois0n RC6 will include ATV2.
