[Codecs] Information on installation codecs on ubuntu - Taravel - 2011-01-25

Hi,

If I want to use vdpau codecs in xbmc for h264, vc1 etc.. should I install medibuntu ppa and ubuntu extra on a standard installation of ubuntu? I installed Ubuntu-X ppa to obtain last nvidia driver and vdpau.

thanks you!

I know Linux Lime has all of this. Medibuntu might have what you need or atleast some of it. i'm kinda rusty since i ran back to the windows world. Best I have is Linux Lime duel boot.

XBMC doesn't need any external codecs, but for VDPAU libvdpau is required.

Is this still true to this day, because if I remove libmp3 etc
my audio will not work. and if I change from the installed packages
from Ubuntu to the ones from medibuntu my videos will not
play right. This is using the latest 10.9 Ubuntu minimal, and
xbmc-live from the svn.
