Ok, I think I've found why its not work for some people.

For those that are having problems, try installing it to C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\addons instead of AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons and see if that helps.

Hi MrC,

Just got this to try and not working for me either, i have tried both addon locations, and comes up with an error, i am running win7 32bit

UPDATE: was saying d3dx9_42.dll was missing so i reinstalled directx and all is working

I tried also the d3dx9_42.dll but it didn't help.
Maybe this information is useful that i didn't see the "debug console" from the Vortex addon either, though it was activated. The screen remains black Sad

New version:Vortex-1.0.1

Fixed: Black screen if installed to AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons
Fixed: Failed to start due to missing DirectX files
Fixed: Voiceprint would sometimes show random texture data
Added: 3d Text announcements of song name. To enable this feature you must add <allowd3d9ex>false</allowd3d9ex> to the advancedsettings.xml. Please note, setting allowd3dex to false may impact the stability of XBMC. Announcements are off by default so you also have to turn them on in the Vortex settings.

Feature requests:
1. in the next version, could you have it so that it is a constant preset..
(Time Between Presets = 0 / Off ? )
So if you choose the Singing Skull he sticks around for the whole playlist Laugh

2. One Preset per song - once a new song starts, a new preset starts

Unfortunately, the awesome Vortex visualization does not work with the latest nightly builds.
The log shows the following error:

12:55:29 T:4540 M:2471124992 WARNING: Win32DllLoader::ResolveExport - Unable to resolve: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\visualization.vortex\Vortex_win32dx.vis ADDON_Create
12:55:29 T:4540 M:2471124992 ERROR: Unable to resolve exports from dll C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\visualization.vortex\Vortex_win32dx.vis

Build: Platform: Windows 7, 64-bit (WoW) Service Pack 1 build 7601. Built on May 13 2011 (Git:20110513-d3f3e7a, compiler 1600)

Is there a way to get this to work again ? *hope*
